- RESEARCH_NOTES:
1 There are twelve different John Charltons having children christened from about 1685 to 1710 in Bellingham. The parish clerk differentiates between them by naming the farm or hamlet where they were residing at the time of christening. Two of the christenings have no residence noted -- one of those is the tentative christening of our Thomas Charlton, who was chr. 28 Mar 1701. I have merged the other Johns into families on FamilySearch based upon their reported locales. Please do not merge this John to the others in a willinilli manner not respecting these localities. To see the localities, see the extraction records on Find-My-Past and do not rely only on FamilySearch which does not show the detailed localities from the original records. No records exist before this time for this chapel, so we don't have much to work with in trying to determine the origins of any of these "Johns." Also marriage records only begin in the mid-1700s and the burials don't give ages or relationships, so wives and mothers cannot be determined. The list is as follows with our proposed line for our Thomas being the son of John listed first. Surprisingly, there is only one case of multiple children sharing the same farm and father. Perhaps "John" was itinerant moving from farm to farm, but trying to merge them creates conflicts in children and their ages. Further ancestral research looks impossible using parish records. The extraction list:

BURIAL:
1. Indexing of the Bellingham Chapelry of Simonburn Parish shows the following burial dates of John Charlton. Reviewing the actual film will be necessary to add any distinguishing farms or residences if the church clerk included them. Judging from previous views of this film, it is rare that ages or relationships were given. Here are the dates from 1696 to 1732:
10 Apr 1696
11 Dec 1697
25 Jul 1706
23 Oct 1709
30 Nov 1714
25 Apr 1731
1 Oct 1732
