"Thomas1 Sanford, born about 1608, came with some of his brothers to New England, following their uncle Andrew Warner. Thomas settled in Dorchester about 1634, and probably married there. About 1640 he removed to Milford, Conn., where he was admitted to the church, 9 Jan. 1641/2. His wife Sarah was admitted 15 Dec. 1642. She died 14 May 1681, and he died the following Autumn.
His will, dated 23 Sept. 1681, named eldest son Ezekiel; sons Thomas, Ephraim, and Samuel; daughters Sarah wife of Richard Shute of Eastchester, and Elizabeth wife of Obadiah Allyn of Middletown; grandchildren Sarah Shute and Thomas Allyn; gave a legacy to Sarah Whitlock that was his maid. His inventory was taken 21 Oct. 1681.
Children, all except the first two baptized at Milford:
i. Ezekiel 2, b. abt. 1637.

iii. Mary, bapt. 16 Jan. 1641/2; d. y.

v. Thomas, bapt. Dec. 1644; d. at New Haven, after 1721; m. at New Haven, 11 Oct. 1666, Elizabeth Payne.
vi. Ephraim, bapt. 17 May 1646; d. at Milford in 1687 (estate inventoried 12 June 1687); m. at New Haven, 18 Nov. 1669, Mary Powell, dau. of Thomas, bapt. 20 July 1645; she m. (2) Nathaniel Baldwin.
vii. Elizabeth, bapt. 27 Aug. 1648; m. at Milford, 26 Oct. 1669, Obadiah Allyn."
