      “BAUDOUIN III, joint Count of Flanders, Lay-abbot of Saint-Bertin, son and heir apparent, born about 940. He married in 961 MATHILDE OF SAXONY, daughter of Hermann Billung, Duke of Saxony, by his wife, Oda. They had one son, Arnulf (II) [Marquis of Flanders]. By an unknown mistress, he also had an illegitimate son, Azelin [Bishop of Paris]. BAUDOUIN III, joint Count of Flanders, died 1 Jan. 962, and was buried in the Abbey of Saint-Bertin in Saint-Omer. His widow, Mathilde, married (2nd) about 963 GODEFROID (or GOTTFRIED), Count of Verdun, before 965-after 997, Count in Bidgau, 959, and in Methingau, 960, 963, Marquis/duke of Eename. They had five sons, Frederic (or Friedrich) [Count of Verdun, Provost of Saint-Vaast], Adalberon [Bishop of Verdun], Hermann [Count of Eename, Count of Brabant], Godefroid (or Gottfried) [Duke of Lower Lorraine], and Gozelo (I) [Duke of Lower Lorraine, Duke of Upper Lorraine, Marquis of Antwerp], and one daughter, Ermengarde (wife of Otto von Hammerstein, Count in Wetterau). Count Godefroid died 3 September, 997 or later. Mathilde died 25 May 1009.

He married in 922 ADÈLE DE VERMANDOIS, daughter of Heribert II, Count of Vermandois, by ___, daughter of Robert I, King of France [see Line A, Gen. 6 above for her ancestry]. They had two sons, Baudouin (III) [joint-Count of Flanders] and Egbert, and two daughters, Liutgarde (wife of [Count] Wichmann) and Elstrude (wife or mistress of Siegfried, Count of Guines). His wife, Adèle, died in 958 or 960. ARNULF I, Count/Marquis of Flanders, died 27 March 964-965. He and his wife were buried in the Abbey of Saint-Pierre, Gand.
