“JOHN BOTETOURT, K.B., of Belchamp Otton, Belchamp William, Gestingthorpe, Gosfield, Halstead, and Ovington, Essex, younger son. He married before 1330 MARGARET ___. They had one son, John, Knt. He was captured at Boroughbridge in 1322 fighting against the king. In 1329 he acknowledged that he owed £130 to the king; to be levied, in default of payment, of his lands and chattels in co. Bedford. In 1330 he acknowledged that he owed £100 John atte Barnet and John Kyslyngberi, Citizens and drapers of London; to be levied, in default of payment, of his lands and chattels in co. Essex. In 1331 he acknowledged that he owed £30 to Henry de Staunton, of London, spicer; to be levied, in default of payment, of his lands and chattels in co. Essex. The following year he acknowledged that he owed £40 to the same individual; to be levied, in default of payment, of his lands and chattels in co. Essex. SIR JOHN BOTETOURT died shortly before 28 August 1339. His widow, Margaret, died 9 August 1376.
