      3. From the book "The Israel Barlow Story and Mormon Mores":
      p. 9: Photo of Elizabeth.
      p. 300: Known as Betsy probably to distinguish her from Elizabeth the first wife.
      p. 322: Elizabeth had a sister in Salt Lake City, Mary Ann Barton, who was married to David Candland. They were good friends of the Israel Barlow family.
      p. 412: In speaking of burial of Israel's son Willard who died in 1854 and was later reinterred to the Salt Lake Cemetery in 1865: "Beside Willard Albert lies the body of his 'Aunt Betsy' who was Israel's second wife... and who was very helpful at the birth of the twin boys, Willard and Wilford, during their birth and later illnesses when Willard died. No marker of any kind indicates their graves." References Plat C, Block 14, Lot #12 of the Salt Lake City Cemetery.
      p. 486: "Also in the year of 1874, 21st of October, Betsy Barton, Israel's second wife died. This news was recorded in a letter to David and Pamela, who with Israel and Annie, were still on the Muddy Mission in Panaca, Nevada."
      p. 526: Betsy was 42 when she married Israel and was probably beyond child bearing years. The book notes many tributes to her character. She was a devoted Relief Society worker visiting the poor and bedridden. She was a second mother to all of the children. She was the beloved "hired girl" of the family. Was a small woman at 100 lbs, 5 foot, and frail. Never knew when she had done enough work. She nursed Elizabeth Haven and her children when on the plains. She also devoted her life to her invalid parents and to the care of her brothers and sisters. She was a natural mother - mothering her husband, his wives, and all their children. Each fall she gathered every herb root and leaf that would be needed for medicine during the winter. She was unassuming. In regards to the first wife, apparently there could not have been a more congenial relationship between two sisters who lived in the same household. She was held in high esteem by the whole Barlow family.
