BIRTH:
1. See burial citation. James Hook in the book referenced below uses 3 Apr 1855 without documentation; however, I believe the burial citation to be the better source.
MARRIAGE:
1. Married Thomas McGrew per info on tombstone. Marriage confirmed by FHL book 977.771 V22p "Index to the 1869-1874 Marriage Records, Pottawattamie County, Iowa": "Mattie N. Graybill and Thomas McGrew, 11 Oct 1871. FHL book 977.771 V2p "Potta. Co. Marriages, Book A-B" shows application for marriage for same couple dated 3 Oct 1871. After Mattie died, FHL book 977.771 V2p "Potta. Co. Marriages, Book A-B" shows marriage application for Thomas McGrew and Julia Lyttle dated 12 Jan 1874. 1880 census for Neola, Pott., IA shows Thomas, age 35, IL, butcher, remarried to Julia, age 24, with a daughter Cora aged 7, Sarah aged 6, and two more even younger. Possibility that Cora may have been from first marriage and perhaps it was at her childbirth that Massie died.
BURIAL:
1. The following name is found on a new memorial stone with 33 other related family members at Graybill/Stoker Cemetery: "Massie McGrew 1855-1872." It is 3 miles east of Council Bluffs, Iowa in Garner Township on old Highway 6 (also known as McPherson Highway - not to be confused with the new Highway 6), then a right (south) on State Orchard Road for 9/10ths of a mile, then left (east) on Cedar Lane to the first driveway on the left (north). The address is 21090 Cedar Lane and the cemetery is in their backyard. Get permission from the homeowner first. These directions were corrected from previous directions after my visit May 8, 2007.
2. Tombstone at Graybill Cemetery, Garner Township, Pottawattamie, Iowa: "Mattie McGrew, wife of Thomas McGrew, dau. of Geo. and Mary Graybill, d. 29 Sep 1872, 17 y 7m 26d."
