      “THOMAS LEWKNOR, Knt., of Horsted Keynes, Sussex, South Mimms, Middlesex, Stoke Doyle, Northamptonshire, etc., Sheriff of Surrey and Sussex, 1426, 1431-2, son and heir, born about 1392 (aged 12 in 1404, aged 19 in 1411). He was heir in 1404 to his cousin, John Tregoz, Lord Tregoz, by which he inherited the manors of Goring, Preston, and Walderton (in Stoughton), Sussex. He fought at the Battle of Agincourt in 1415. He married (1st) before 24 Oct. 1417 PHILIPPE DALLINGRIDGE, widow of Richard Berners, Esq., of West Horsley, Surrey (died 6 Aug. 1412) [see MORLEY 12], and daughter and heiress of Walter Dallingridge (or Dalyngrygge), Knt., by Margaret, daughter of John Chamond. They had one son, Roger, Knt. His wife, Philippe, died 2 Oct. 1421. He married (2nd) before Michaelmas 1426 ELIZABETH ECHINGHAM, widow of Thomas Hoo, Knt. (died 23 Aug. 1420) [see HOO 13], of Luton-Hoo, Bedfordshire, Brundale and Mulbarton, Norfolk, Ockley, Surrey, Wartling, Sussex, etc., and daughter of William Echingham, Knt. [see ECHINGHAM 10], of Etchingham and Udimore, Sussex, by his 2nd wife, Alice, daughter and co-heiress of William Batisford. They had five sons, John, Knt., Thomas, Richard, Esq., Walter, and Nicholas, and three daughters, Alice (wife of John Pelham, Knt.), Jane (wife of Thomas Goode), and Joan (wife of Henry Frowick). In 1432 he was a supervisor of the will of his grandfather, Nicholas Carew. He presented to the churches of Stoke Doyle, Northamptonshire, 1435, and Greatworth, Northamptonshire, 1438. She was a legatee in the 1444 will of her brother, Thomas Echingham, Knt. He served as a witness for a charter of Thomas Hoo, Knt. in 1445. SIR THOMAS LEWKNOR died in 1452. In 1454 his widow, Elizabeth, and Joan Rykhill, daughters of Alice Batisford, disputed with their cousin, Sir Richard Fiennes, grandson of Alice's sister, Elizabeth, for possession of the manor of Buckholt (in Bexhill), Sussex. Elizabeth was named in the 1455 will of her step-son, Thomas Hoo, Knt., Lord Hoo. Sometime before 1464, she sued John Cheyne, son and heir of Sir William Cheyne, Knt., feoffee to uses regarding a tenement called 'the Christopher,' in St. Peter's, Cornhill, London, demised for the maintenance of the chantry of Goring, Sussex. In the same period, she sued her step-son, Roger Lewknor, in Chancery regarding the manors of Goring and Preston, Sussex.       “THOMAS HOO, Knt., of Luton Hoo (in Luton), Bedfordshire, Stamshaw, Hampshire, Brundale and Mulbarton, Norfolk, Ockley, Surrey, Warding, Sussex, etc., son and heir. He married (1st) before 18 Feb. 1394/5 (date of demise) ELEANOR FELTON, widow of Robert de Ufford, Knt. (living 7 Jan. 1389/90, died before 1393) [see CLAVERING 10], of Burgh St. Margaret and Horsford, Norfolk, Wrentham, Suffolk, etc., daughter and co-heiress of Thomas de Felton, KG of Litcham, Banham, Dersingham, Great Ryburgh, Ingaldesthorp, Little Ryburgh, and Wilby, Norfolk, Burrow, Suffolk, etc., Seneschal of Aquitaine, Seneschal of Gascony, by Joan, daughter and co-heiress of Richard de Walkfare, Knt. [see FELTON 7 for her ancestry]. She was born about 1361 (aged 20 in 1381). They had one son, Thomas, K.G. [Lord Hoo and Hastings]. In 1394 he quitdaimed to his uncle, John de Hoo, and John Glemham all his right in the manor of Stamshaw, Hampshire. In 1395 and 1396 he and his wife, Eleanor, and the Convent presented to the church of Blythburgh, Suffolk. His wife, Eleanor, died 8 August 1400. He married (2nd) after 15 Jan. 1414/15 ELIZABETH ECHINGHAM, daughter of William Echingham, Knt. [see ECHINGHAM 10], of Etchingham and Udimore, Sussex, by his 1st wife, Alice, daughter and co-heiress of William Batisford. They had one son, Thomas, Esq. (of Horsham and Roughey, Sussex, and Southwark, Surrey). He fought at the Battle of Agincourt in 1415. In 1417 he levied a fine to settle the manor and advowson of the church of Mulbarton, Norfolk on himself and heirs. The same year he conveyed to Thomas Huchon, of Ukkefeld, lands and tenements called Sturgislondes together in 7 crofts at Cowbeech (in Warding), Sussex. He was present at the Siege of Rouen in 1418. In 1420 Richard Osbarn and others, executors of the will of Stephen Speleman, Citizen and mercer of London, sued Thomas Hoo, Knt., of Bedfordshire, alias of Warding, Sussex, in the Court of Common Pleas claiming that the said Thomas owed them £31 2s. 8d. which the late Stephen Speleman had loaned to the said Thomas. He married before August 1394 ISABEL MOLEYNS, daughter of William de Moleyns, Knt., of Stoke Poges and Datchet, Buckinghamshire, Gresham, Norfolk, Aston Bampton, Oxfordshire, Lea, Little Somerford, and Whitley (in Caine), Wiltshire, etc., King's yeoman, Knight of the Shire for Buckinghamshire, by Margery, daughter and co-heiress of Edmund Bacon, Knt. He married ELIZABETH CAREW, evidently daughter of Nicholas Carew, of Beddington and Warlingham, Surrey, Knight of the Shire for Surrey, Sheriff of Surrey and Sussex, by his 1st wife, Isabel, daughter of Alice de la Mare, of Delamere (in Wheathampstead), Hertfordshire. They two sons, Thomas, Knt., and John, Knt., and one daughter, Agnes (or Anne) (wife of Andrew Sackville, Richard Myll, Esq., and William Kighley). ROGER LEWKNOR, Esq., died shortly before 15 Nov. 1400. His widow, Elizabeth, married (2nd) (as his 2nd wife) ROBERT KNYVET, Esq. His wife, Elizabeth, died 25 Sept. 1410, and was buried at Beddington, Surrey. ROBERT KNYVET, Esq., left a will proved in 1419 (P.C.C. 47 Marche).

[see LEWKNOR 14 for his ancestry]. They had three sons, Edward, Thomas, and John (clerk) [Parson of Broadwater, Sussex], and one daughter, Joan (or Jane) (wife successively of Thomas Moore, John Massingberd, and Thomas Thatcher). Elizabeth was co-heir in 1499 to her nephew, William Radmylde, Knt. She died before 1503.

She married (1st) WILLIAM DE BRYAN (or BRIAN), Knt., of Kemsing and Seale, Kent, Batheaston, Downhead, Kingsdon, and Shockerwick (in Bathford), Somerset, and Woodmansterne, Surrey, Captain of Merk Castle in the Marches of Calais, 2nd son of Guy de Bryan, K.G., Lord Bryan, of Laugharne, Carmarthenshire, Walwyn's Castle, Pembrokeshire, Clifton Dartmouth and Hardness and Slapton, Devon, Woodsford, Dorset, etc., by his 2nd wife, Elizabeth, daughter of William de Montagu, Knt., 1st Earl of Salisbury, 3rd Lord Montagu, Marshal of England [see CAREW 10.ii for his ancestry]. They had no issue. In the period, 1390-5, he complained to the king and the lords in Parliament that Sir John Devereux had "estranged him from his inheritance" while he was in the king's service. SIR WILLIAM DE BRYAN died 23 Sept. 1395, and was buried at Seale, Kent. His widow, Joan, was assigned dower 1 Dec. 1397. She married (before 22 Feb. 1401 (grant of land) (as his 2nd wife) WILLIAM ECHINGHAM (or ECHYNGHAM), Knt., of Etchingham and Udimore, Sussex,19 son of William de Echingham, Knt., of Etchingham, Sussex, by his wife, Elizabeth. They had one son, Thomas, Knt. In 1401 he and his wife, Joan, were granted 102 acres of arable land, 22 acres of wood, and rents in Benenden, Kent by the king. She was a legatee in the 1401 will of Agnes Arundel, widow of her brother, William Arundel, K.G. His wife, Joan, died 1 Sept. 1404. SIR WILLIAM ECHINGHAM died 20 March 1412/13 (or 30 Dec. 1413). Administration on his estate was granted in 1414. He and his 1st wife, Joan Arundel, were buried at Etchingham, Sussex.
      (Footnote: William Echingham married (1st) Alice Batisford, daughter and co-heiress of William Batisford, of Buckholt (in Bexhill).; Sussex, by Margery, daughter and heiress of Simon de Peplesham. His wife, Alice, was named in a Sussex fine dated: 1397-8 1397-8 [see Salzman Feet of Fines Rel. Sussex-3 (Sussex Rec. Soc. 23) (1916): 208-210].
