Zabriskie, George Olin, "The Jan Cornelisen Van Hoorn/Van Horne Family," The American Genealogist, Vol. 46, No. 3 (July 1970), pp. 170, 173-174: John Joris Van Horne, son of Joris Jansen Van Hoorn . . . by his wife Maria Rutgers, was born in New York and baptized there in the Dutch Reformed Church on 31 March 1669, witnesses: Rutgerd Jans and Styntje _____ (perhaps child's maternal grandmother; Rutgerd Jans not identified). On 28 Feb. 1710/1, as Jan Jorise Van Hoorn, he joined the same church. He lived in New York and Williams says he was a weaver. In the census of the North Ward taken about 1703 his household consisted of one male and one female adult. He was probably the Jan Van Hoorn who died 29 June 1746 (Dutch Reformed Church records). John married, 13 September (banns 21 Aug.) 1702 in the Dutch Reformed Church in New York, Magdalena Carstens, born in Albany, New York. Children: baptized in New York Reformed Church i. Catharine, bapt. 15 Dec. 1703, witnesses: Willem Boogert and Maria Rutgers (child's paternal grandmother and uncle by marriage). ii. Joris, bapt. 7 Jan. 1705, witnesses: Willem Bogert and Hillegond Joris, his wife (child's paternal aunt and her husband); m. 12 Oct. (banns 25 Sept.) 1741, N. Y. Reformed Church, Sarah Dimak, widow of William Higgens. iii. Carsten, bapt. 23 July 1710, witnesses: Manus Burger and Maria Andriesse (child's maternal uncle by marriage and paternal aunt); d.y. . . . iv. Jan/John, bapt. 4 Oct. 1713."
