1. FHL book “A History of the Camfield Family with special emphasis on the descendants of John Freeman Camfield and Margaret Singleton Camfield…,” by Ernest Ross Camfield (Self-publilshed, 100 copies; 1999) p. 273, “THE FAMILY OF VERPLANCK AND ITS CONNECTIONS WITH VAN LAER”:
“GENERATION 1
Isaac Verplanck
The existence of Isaac Verplanck is known to us strictly by his name, and that is through the revelation by his son's name as previously explained in how the Dutch continually used the "fathers name" in the following generation.”
GENERATION 2
Abram Isaacson Verplanck
Abram Isaacson Verplanck was the owner of land called Paulus Hook, which is now Jersey City. His deed was dated 1640. He is frequently named in the official publication, “The Documentary History of New York.” A special article referring to him is found in "O'Callaghan's History of New Netherlands," Vol. 1, page 185. He is known to be the father of Abigail who married Aryan Van Laer.”
GENERATION 3
Abigail Verplanck
As already shown she married Aryan Van Laer, and that essentially is all that is known of her. She lived in Brooklyn, New York and had died before 1672, when her husband remarried. We do know that this Verplanck family of which she was a part is a very interesting one. It has furnished several men of distinction, exactly how she is related to each of these individuals, I did not bother to determine. We do know that they were one and the same family of Verplanck.
-Daniel C. Verplanck. Was a member of Congress from 1803-1809, afterwards he served as a Judge. His estate at Fishkill had been in the possession of the family since 1682, and the house was still standing in the 1960's. This house at one time was the headquarters of Baron Steuben, during the American Revolution; it was also in this house that Colonel Lewis Nichols proposed to Washington to accept the crown. -Gulian C. Verplanck. 1786-1870 was a Professor of moral science and divinity, president of many literary and charitable societies, and member of Congress from 1825-1833. He was a state Senator 1838-1841; Vice Chancellor of the University of New York from 1855 until his death. He was the author of many esteemed works.
-Isaac A. Verplanck. 1812-1873, was a distinguished jurist and judge.”
2. The book “Genealogy of the Family of Longstreet with Its Related Families…,” by Edward Mayes (Tuttle Antiquarian Books, Inc., Rutland, VT; 1989?), p. D-42:
“THE FAMILY OF VERPLANCK.
ISAAC VERPLANCK. The existence of this progenitor is only known to us through the revelation by his son's name, as already explained.
ISAACSEN VERPLANCK, was the owner of Paulus Hoek (or the site of Jersey City) at one period, about 1640. He is frequently mentioned in the official publication, the Documentary Hist. of New York. A special note on him is found in O'Callaghan's Hist. of New Netherland, Vol. I, p. 185. His daughter.
ABIGAL VERPLANCK, as already shown, married Ayran Van Laer; and that is all we know of her.”
3. The book “Genealogy of the Family of Longstreet with Its Related Families…,” by Edward Mayes (Tuttle Antiquarian Books, Inc., Rutland, VT; 1989?), p. D-15:
“Aryan (or Adrian) Van Laer, is the first of this family of whom anything is known. He took the oath of allegiance to the English, at New York in 1664. In April 1666, he bought of Isaac Claesen two double building-lots in Amersfoort (Flatbush), as per page 58 of Liber D. of Flatbush records. Owned property in New York in 1672. On March 1, 1680-81, he bought of Simon Romeyn a house and lot in Flatbush, as per page 47 of Liber A. of Flatbush Records. His name appears on the assessment rolls of Brooklyn in 1683. Married 1st. Abigail, daughter of Abram Isaacsen Verplanck; and 2nd., on the 28th. of April, 1672, Luvtie Schouen, widow. Issue, so far as known.
(1) Jannetje, mar. Lanen van Pelt.
(2) Gerret. baptised Nov. 21, 1669, in New York.
JANNETJE ARYANS (or Adriens) VAN LAER must have been born about 1655, since she was certainly married in 1677, as shown by the New Utrecht Church list, and her husband was born in 1652. She was married about 1675; and must have lived until so late as 1690, as one of her children was baptized in 1689. As she had nine children, now known, she probably lived into the eighteenth century.”
4. The book “Register in Alphabetical Order, of the early settlers of Kings County, Long Island, N. Y.; from its first settlement by Europeans to 1700; with contributions to their biographies and genealogies,” by Teunis G. Bergen (New York: S.W. Green's Son, 1881), p. 343:
“Van Laer, Aryan or Adrian, m. 1st Abagail dau. of Abram Isaacsen Plank or Verplancken, the owner at one period of Poulus Hoek (Jersey city); m. 2d, Apl. 28, 1672, Luytle Schonen, wid. In 1664 he took the oath of allegiance to the English in N. Y. Apl. 1666 he bought of Isaac Claesen two double building-plots in Flds, as per p. 58 of Lib. D of Flh rec. Owned property in N. Y. in 1672. Mar. 1, 1680-81, he bought of Simon Romeyn a house and lot in Flh, as per p. 47 of Lib. A of Flh rec. His name appears on the ass. roll of Bro of 1683. Issue: - Gerret, bp. Nov. 27, 1669, in N. Y. Signed his name “Aryan Vanlaer."
