    • CHRISTENING:
      1. Accepting the premise that this George is the same George who married Jane Foster in Saint John Lee on 20 Jun 1762, then the following child may be their first child. This is from the parish christening records of Saint John Lee per FHL film 1068897 and it is the only entry for a George Charleton between 1705 and 1809 with the exception of two twins, Matthew andJohn, christened in 1752. The scarcity of George as a father in the parish and the fact that the marriage and christening coincide so closely seems more than coincidence. From my review of various parish registers of the area, it was not uncommon that a marriage would occur just prior to the birth of a child. In fact there are many illegitimate children also reported -- so the morals were relatively loose. The entry:
-Mary, dau. of George Charrelton of Wal, chr. 1 Aug 1762.
