    • RESEARCH_NOTES:
      1. The following burial record establishes the wife of our George being name "Jane." Since there were only two Georges in Fourstones, father and son, and since George the younger was married to Mary Turnbull, this record establishes the name of George the senior's wife as Jane. From the parish records of Warden, of which Newbrough Chapelry is subservient and very nearby, per FHL film 1068615, (note that this Parish was never fully extracted by LDS IGI for the mid to late 1700s and so the following information is not readily seen); see George's notes for my full extraction of which the following single entry is from the burials of 1724 to 1819:
-30 Nov 1791, Jane, dau. of George and Jane Charleton of Fourstones.
I believe another key is the name of George's and Jane's son Foster.
In searching the various nearby parishes for marriages of George Charlton to any Jane circa 1760-1764, there is only one that fits the criteria and that is Jane Foster per the marriage reported below. I do have two reservations: (1) that she would have been perhaps about 31 when she married and she continued having children until age 52, which seems a little long; and (2) I am not sure what the relationship if any is with a Michael Charlton who witnessed the marriage since I don't find any Michaels in our database unless he was a cousin. On the other hand, the Jane Charlton who died in 1819 may not be the same Jane Foster.
Until something better comes up, I believe this is probably the best choice.

      2. FHL film 2193232, Warden Parish Overseers books showing payments to the poor:
-There is a Margaret Charleton receiving payments for several years from about the 1780s to 1820. [No relationship to our family that I can find.]
-There is a Sarah Charleton receiving payments from 25 May-25 Jun 1804. This is about the time George died. [I am not sure who this is.]
-There is a George receiving misc. payments "when ill" for what looks to be 1804 (the entry above his) even though it is in the section of May 1805-May 1806. [Probably George senior.]
-There is a Jane Charleton receiving a year's worth of payments beginning about 1810 and continuing to about 1819. [Probably Jane, wife of George, who dies in 1819 when the poor donations ceased.]
-There is a George Charleton with children receiving some payments in about 1817-1819. [Probably George, son of George.]

      BIRTH:
      1. See age at time of death in burial record below.

      CHRISTENING:
      1. The following is a search of the various parish christening records for Mary Foster/Forster chr. 1725 to 1745. The first part is for all of Northumberland assuming the father is Edward, which name we see in the marriage record as a witness (he may not be the father). The second is a parish by parish search within a 3-4 parish deep radius.
      A. Father as Edward:
-27 Dec 1727, Jane, dau. of Edward Forster, Newbrough chapelry.
      B. Encircling extracted IGI batch search giving too many results to determine our Jane Foster.:
-No entries for the following parishes: Bellingham, Simonburn, or Warden (done with film).
-14 Oct 1725, Jane, dau. of Richard Foster, Newburn parish.
-2 Jun 1726, Jane, dau. of John and Jane Forster, Heddon On The Wall parish.
-23 Jan 1726, Jane, dau. of Thomas Foster, Haydon Bridge chapelry.
-1727, Jane, Wm. and Margery Forster, Corsenside parish.
-13 Apr 1729, Jane, dau. of Thomas Foster, Lee Saint John parish.
-21 Mar 1731, Jane, dau. of Thomas Foster, Haydon Bridge chapelry.
-30 May 1731, Jane, dau. of Wm. and Barbara Foster, Haltwhistle parish.
-4 Apr 1732, Jane, dau. of Henry Forster, Ovingham parish.
-12 Jan 1733, Jane, dau. of John Forster, Newbrough parish.
-24 Jun 1733, Jane, dau. of John Forster, Newburn parish.
-31 Aug 1733, Jane, dau. of J. Foster, Stamfordham parish.
-26 Sep 1734, Jane, dau. of Richard Foster, Haydon Bridge chapelry.
-30 Dec 1734, Jane, dau. of William Forster, Corsenside parish.
-21 Mar 1738, Jane, dau. of George Forster, Hartburn parish.
-11 Jul 1742, Jane, dau. of William Foster, Haydon Bridge parish.
-17 Feb 1743, Jane, dau. of Thomas Foster, Ovingham parish.
-11 Jun 1743, Jane, dau. of John Forster, Hexham parish.

      MARRIAGE:
      1. FHL film 1068897 of the parish records of Lee St. John: "George Charleton and Jane Foster both of the Chapelry of St. Oswald were married in this Church by publication this 20 Jun 1762 by me Alex'r Stokoe, Curate of St. John Lee. This marriage was solemnized between George Charlton and Jane Foster in the presence of us, [signed] Edward Forster and Michael Charlton."

      BURIAL:
      1. Even though not 100% proven, I believe the following burial record is for this Jane. See husband George's notes for full transcription of all burials and the following Jane is the only one that works in my opinion. I believe that she was probably living with a relative in Newcastle when she died and there would be no other reason to be buried in Warden, which is some distance from Newcastle, unless she was being buried with a previously deceased husband.
-18 Nov 1819, Jane Charleton, 86 years old, residing at Newcastle upon Tyne.
