Information on this family came from the Hale Collection Gravestone collection for Hartland, Federal Census's for Hartland, Hartford, CT and records from the First Congregational Church, East Hartland, CT.
There is a birth of a Charles Jones in Hebron, CT, 27 Nov 1760, son of John Jones & Amey Phelps. The Revolutionary War Stone has a death year of 1853 not 1852, this would make the age and birth date a better match.
Charles can be found on the 1830, 1840, & 1850 Federal Census in Hartland, I have not looked at the 1800 & 1810 as of this point. Charles's will mentions "my three daughters; Sophia Daniels, Hannah Gillet, & Trilletta (sp?) Holcomb." and wife Hannah. No sons were mentioned in the will?
In the 1850 Census there is two families living in the same house, John Jones ae. 48 with daughters Jane, ae. 15 & Fanny ae. 6. The next family living in the same house is Hiram Jones ae. 49, Sarah ae. 36, Almsron (sp?) ae. 13 male, Alonzo ae. 12, Mary ae. 7, Charles ae. 91, Hannah ae. 81, Lester ae. 40, & Sylvester ae. 45.
In the 1880 Census three Jones's are living together in Hartland, Ct; Lester Jones ae. 69, brother Sylvester Jones ae. 75, & sister (widow) Hannah Gillett ae. 88. Lester and Hannah are in the same grave plot as Charles & John Jones. Charles must have given his sons land so that is why they are not in his will. Need to check land records to see if Charles Jones gave his son's Roderick, Sylvester, Lester, & maybe others land.
Charles gravestone, in East Hartland, has Revolution War, Capt. Painter's Company.
