John and his wife taxed 3s. 6d. Also separately listed is Henry Penny taxed 1s. This could be either a brother or father to John considering the proximity. Another tax record is the 1664 Hearth Tax for Rochester <http://www.hearthtax.org.uk/communities/kent/kent_1664L_transcript.pdf> accessed 10 Feb 2016 (page 157) for John Penny, living in South Borough, who had a house with 6 hearths.
