1. CAUTION! The marriage of Susanna Sargeant of Hastings, Sussex to Richard Hilton in Fristed looks very suspect. The two locations are 22 miles away. Wilmington and Fristed Parish records are not online and this needs to be looked at with actual films of the parishs. I appear to be the only one using this connection with online family trees and I only have it on the authority of Val Bray below who got it from the old and somewhat unreliable Ancestral File and Pedigree Resource File. I may need to disconnect the entire Sargeant ancestral line from my database. The more likely marriage for Susanna Sargeant is the marriage recorded in Hastings All Saints in 1738 to Robert Thatcher.

Her parents were Thomas Daw and Mary Hilton married in Willingdon on 17 Oct 1768. (Mary was buried on 12 Oct 1783 at Westham.) Mary Hilton was bapt. 30 Mar 1746 in Wilmington, Ssx. Her parents were Richard Hilton and Susan Sergeant who were married on 15 Jan 1734 at Friston, Ssx. (Ssx. M. Index). Their children were Elizabeth bapt. 30 Sep 1737, Thomas 9 Mar 1739, John 29 Nov 1741, William 27 May 1744, Mary 30 Mar 1746, Ann 17 Jul 1748, Susan 26 Aug 1750, Edward 6 Feb 1757, Robert 6 Feb 1757, all at Wilmington. Note: A Thomas Daw married a Mary Bingham on 6 Apr 1758 at Warbleton. Their children were Samuel bapt. 14 Mar 1762, Mary 18 Jun 1763, Elizabeth 21 JUn 1765, all at Warbleton. (Did Mary Bingham die and Thomas remarry? Will look into this.)
