She was apparently a daughter of Robert Savidge of Surry Co., Virginia. In his will of 1697 he names his sons Charles and Lovelis and his daughter Olive. The 1728 will of Loveless Savidge mentions an Olive Manggum. John Mangum Jr. died in 1744 and his estate was administered by Olive Mangum. Olive was a godparent to several children in the Albemarle Parish, Surry Co., Virginia after John's death. We suspect those children were Olive & John's grandchildren. We also suspect that another child was John Mangum (III?) who moved to Mecklenburg Co., Virginia. His son, John, was a Revolutionary War patriot. His descendants were the subject of a book by Mrs. Delta Ivy Mangum Hale."

Mangum Family Bulletin, REPRINT 1987 (as Issue Number 4), [Originally issued as Volume 1, Number 4], Issue Number 4, December 1969, edited by James Lynn Parham, pp. 49-50: "By 1728(15) we again have a John Mangum in Surry County. On this date a John Mangum witnessed the Will of John Spratley. It was theorized above that this John was a son of the earlier John. Deeds in 1742 and 1743(20,21) indicate that this John's wife was named Olive. With this in mind, some earlier records concerning the Savidge family assume some importance. In 1697(7) the Will of Robert Savidge names sons Charles and Lovelis and daughter Olive. In 1713(11) the Will of Charles Savidge mentions sons Robert and Lovelis. In 1728(16) the Will of Lovelis Savidge mentions Olive Manggum. It is at least possible that Olive, John's wife, was named Olive Savidge before her marriage and she may have been the daughter of Robert Savidge. However, additional clarification is needed here. In 1744(22) the estate of John Mangum deceased was signed by Olive Mangum as administrator. In 1747(23) Olive witnessed the Will of John Richardson and between 1752 and 1754(24,25,26,27) an Olive Mangum was a godparent to four children born in the Albemarle Parish of Surry County.

10 June 1674: Southwark Parish had 238 people and Lawnes Creek Parish had 182 people including a John Bennett. 1678 - Jonah Bennett and George Morrell were listed. 1688 - Jno Bennett, Jonas Benett & William Bennitt. 1692 - John Mangle (page 280), Robert Savadge, Charles Savage, Wm. Bennett & Henry Savage. 1693 - Besides John Mangom there was Chas Savadge, Jas Bennett, Hen. Savage, Robert Lancaster (Sr. & Jr.), Wm. Bennett & Tho Ward. 1694 - James Bennett, Jonas Bennett, William Bennett, George Morrell (Jr. & Sr.), Robert Savage & Charles Savage. Notes on Surry County, Virginia Tithables:
a. It is unknown who Jonah Bennett is, and whether or not he has any connection to the Richard Bennett Sr. family. b. George Morrell sold and received land to/from John Mangum in 1695/6. c. John Mangle is listed only because of the similarities to the name 'John Mangum'. It presents some interesting coincidences, coming one year before the first listing of our John Mangum in 1693. The English 'Mangles' have been given some consideration for the procurer of the Mangham/Mangum name. See the "Origins" articles in the Journal, beginning with issue 39. [A subsequent issue of this Journal, no. 45 as quoted above, indicates this is in fact John Mangum in his earliest record in America.] d. John Mangum (Jr.?) apparently married Olive Savidge sometime before 1728. There is no known marriage record, but John & Olive Mangum were selling land as man and wife in 1728. e. Richard Bennett Jr. married Sarah, widow of Daniel Lewis. She married Robert Lancaster after Richard Bennett Jr. died. In her 1722 Will in Isle of Wight County she mentions Mary and Sarah Mangum, daughters of John Mangum. f. John Mangum appraised the estate of Thomas Ward in 1728.
6. The book "Wills and Administrations of Surry County, Virginia, 1671-1750," by Eliza Timberlake Davis, p. 114:
"SAVIDGE, Robert: Leg. To wife, (Mary Savidge) my dwelling place, 265 acres, and at her death to son, Charles Savidge. Mentions son, Lovelis Savidge. Daughter, Olive Andrews, household goods, cattle, etc. Mary Savidge, Exerx. Made: 17 March, 1697/8. Prob.: 3 May, 1698. Book 5, p. 155.
7. The following transcriptions are various land and tithable records from 1681 on showing the Savage family. The mentions are incidental to the transcriber's research into the family of Phillips and may not be 100% complete. In reviewing these limited records, I make the following observations:
1. Charles is mentioned from 1681 on and Robert from 1685 in descriptions of various land deeds. No Lovelis is mentioned until 1719/1720. Henry is mentioned from 1735.
2. In the tithables (taxes), both Charles and Robert are mentioned from 1681 on. In 1697, Robert appears for the last time. The two Charles show up (the original one plus one associated near Jno. Baker) in 1696 and 1697. Lovelis shows up for the first time in 1700. This roughly coincides with Robert's death in 1698 where he names his two sons Charles and Loveless in the will. From the two Charles listed, it would appear that perhaps there was an older Charles and a younger Charles. Perhaps the older could be a brother to Robert, but not knowing the exact age of Robert, he may have been a son - it does seem strange though that Loveless only appears from 1700 on whereas Charles was 1681 on. The junior Charles could have been the son of Robert or perhaps the son of the original Charles - more info is needed to sort out this puzzle.
3. A Henry shows up in tithables from 1691 on in Lawne's Creek Parish, and then exclusively in Southwark Parish from 1694 on. His exact connection to the other Savages/Savidges is currently unknown.
4. Sarah ___ is confirmed the wife of the Loveless who is the son of Robert.
5. In the tithables, a Mary Savage is identified in 1699 and a "Widdow" Savage in 1701. These could very well be the same person and the wife of the deceased Robert of 1698.

When you pull the Surry CO VA Surry records you will soon understand this. I am going to attach one of my files for you. I do have many of these original records (scanned), but not all. I still have quite a bit to add to this file = it is always a work in progress. Though the focus is on the various Phillips that lived in the area during this time period, there are several Savage records. The focus of this file is aimed at specific individuals or families who lived in Colonial Surry CO, VA (area) prior to 1760, and is specifically focused on the Phillips family... The data (records) presented are a basis for further study, but readers should not use the hypothesis and theories as fact.
A. County Formation Background: Isle of Wight and James City Counties were (both) formed in 1634 and were original Shires. Isle of Wight was formerly known as Warrosquyoacke; name changed to Isle of Wight (IOW) in 1637.
Lawne's Creek Parish VA was established by the General Assembly in 1640 in that part of James City County south of the James which would later become part of Surry CO VA (formed 1652). It bore the name of Capt. Christopher Lawne who settled in 1619 in the area which was referred to as Lawne's Plantation and Lawne's Creek. This parish was small, beginning "from the Mouth of Hogg Island creek along by the James river to Lawnes Creek and from Lawnes creek to the head of the uppermost branches of the said creek and from the head of the branches of Lawnes creek to the branches of Chippokes [Chipoakes] creek westerly and thence to the mouth of Chippokes creek and thence to Hogg Island creek." (Charles Francis Cocke, Parish Lines Diocese of Southern Virginia, Virginia State Library, Richmond, VA, 1979, p. 58) Southwarke Parish, established in 1647, covered the large area between the two Chippokes, whereas the Lawne's Creek Parish covered the relatively narrow area between Lower Chippokes (Lower Chipoakes) and Lawne's Creek. When Surry County was formed from James City County (the part south of the James) in 1652, it included both Lawnes Creek Parish and Southwarke Parish. Surry County, Virginia, was named for the English County of Surrey. County court records begin with 1652. In 1720 Brunswick CO, was formed from parts of Prince George CO, Isle of Wight CO and Surry CO. Portions of Lawnes Creek Parish and Southwarke Parish thus became part of St. Andrew's Parish in Brunswick County VA. Brunswick County was not fully organized until 1732, so look for records in both jurisdictions during this time period. In Nov 1738 the General Assembly "enacted the parishes of Southwark and Lawne's Creek be divided by the Blackwater River." (Cocke, p. 60) Therefore, portions of the two parishes between the James and Blackwater River became Southwark, and those south of the Blackwater were joined to form the new parish of Albemarle, the name Lawne's Creek parish fading into history.
Southampton CO, VA was formed April 30, 1749 from Isle of Wight and Nansamond. It is located South of Surry but adj to it. It is also located adj to Isle of Wight to the West. Surry, IOW and Southampton all come together in a "tri county" area.
Sussex County was formed in 1753 from the part of Surry County that was south of the Blackwater River."
