      2. FHL Book 929.273EL54h "George Michael Eller and Descendants of His in America": "Many counties were formed from what originally was Rowan County, namely Surry and Guilford in 1770, Burke and Wilkes in 1777, Randolph in 1779, Iridell in 1788, Stokes in 1789, Buncomb in 1791, Ashe in1799, Davidson in 1822, Yancey in 1833, Davie in 1836 and Yadkin in 1850. Some of these counties were grandchildren of Rowan County; for instance Wilkes was taken partly from Burke and partly from Surry, Randolph from Guilford, Buncomb and Yancy form Burke, Ashe from Wilkes and Stokes and Yadkin from Surry. These facts must be kept in mind when tracing early Rowan County families."

      3. The book "The Howard Leytham Stoker Von Dollen Family Histories," FHL 929.273 H833a, by Doris Lewis, 2017 So. 80th Ave., Omaha, Nebraska, 68124, p. 89: "Peter was the first son of George Michael Eller. Because there were a number of years between Peter's birth and the others, the question arises if he might not be a child of a first marriage. He grew up in North Carolina and married Elizabeth Dick in 1766. His land grant was close to other Ellers, beginning at the spruce pine on the Upper Ford on Rones Creek. In 1797 he bought the 70 acres which had been granted to his father-in-law, Conrad Dick. This land had been surveyed and chain carriers were listed as Michael Stoker and John Eller, neighbors. Peter had 470 acres at his death... There oldest daughter, Catherine, married Michael Stoker and their youngest daughter, Mary, married George Koons and their great granddaughter, Betty Oman married Orson Hyde Stoker. Children:
      a. John, b. 1767 or 1769; d. 1823; m. Susanna Kerns.
      b. Catherine, b. 6 Mar 1773 at Rowan Co., NC; d. 1850 at Council Bluffs, Iowa; m. Michael Stoker.
      c. Elizabeth, b. 1780; m. William Pennington.
      d. Barbara, b. 1782; m. Pertune.
      e. Mary, b. 1783, NC; d. 1872; m. George Koons (a Quaker who was disowned for marrying Mary, who was a Dunkard). She was 18 and he 19.
      f. Jacob, b. 1784; d. 1855; m. Catherine White.
      g. Henry, b. 1788; d. 1876; m. Elizabeth Johnson.
      h. George."

      4. FHL book 929.273 P684pn: "Graybill/Stoker/Eller/Smith/Koons/Pitt Connections," by Norman E. 'Gene' Pitt, 1996, pp. 119-123: "Jacob Eller, b. abt 1784; d. 3 Nov 1855, Ashe Co., NC; md. abt 1805 to Catherine White. She was b. abt 1789; d. 3 Jan 1854. She probably was the d/o Luke White. Jacob and Catherine were living in 1815 on land called Rich Bend, located at the confluence of Mll Creek and the north fork of the New River in Ashe Co., NC. He was still living there at the time of his death. He was a prosperous farmer and left considerable property to his children. Both he and his wife are buried in the family cemetery located on his home farm. Their children were Luke, Mary, Elizabeth, Peter, Nancy, William, Susanah, Sarah, John and David."

      5. FHL Book 929.273EL54 h died 3 Nov 1855 at the age of 'about 83.' The 1850 census of Ashe County, NC gave him the age of 66 and his wife Catherine the age of 61. This writer believes that family memory overstated his age by about ten years and accepts a birth year of 1783 or 1784. His view is supported by the earlier census records of Ashe County which give him the age of between 26-45 in 1810 and 1820, between 40-50 in 1830, and between 50-60 in 1840. He is not shown in the 1800 census. Jacob Eller married about 1804/05 Catherine White, b. 1788/9; d. 3 Jan 1854, dau. probably of Luke White. Her age in the 1850 census was given as 61. Her age in 1810 census was between 16 and 26, in 1820 between 26 and 45, and in 1830 and 1840 between 40 and 50.
Jacob Eller first appears in Ashe County records 27 Nov 1806 when, with his brother Peter Eller, he witnessed the survey of 150 acres to Michael Stucker (Stoker), his brother-in-law probably. On 7 Jul 1809, as an heir at law of Peter Eller, deceased, he signed a deed disposing of land to Leonard Fantz. (Deed Book M, p. 163, Ashe County.) He signed other similar deeds 17 Sep 1816 and 11 Feb 1817. (Deed Book F, pp. 83 and 414, Ashe Co.) In 1811 a deed of his to Alexander Smith for 15 acres of land was acknowledged by the Nov 1811 Court. (Deed Book F, p. 109, Ashe Co., NC.)
Jacob Eller was a witness in the suit of North Carolina vs. Lewis Jones and was bound in the sum of 50 pounds by the November 1815 Court to assure his appearance.
Jacob Eller was living, 1815, on land called Rich Bend located at the confluence of Mill Creek and the north fork of New River in Ashe County, and was still living there at the time of his death. He was a well-to-do farmer for his time and left considerable property to his children. Both he and his wife lie buried in the family cemetery located on his home farm.
The ten children of Jacob Eller and his wife Catherine White, order of birth not certain, were:
Luke Eller, b. 8 Jun 1806; d. 6 Dec 1883; m. license issued in Ashe Co., NC, 27 Mar 1829, Sarah King, b. 5 May 1810; d. 10 Jan 1892. Her mother doubtless was the Patsy King who, according to the 1860 census of Ashe Co., NC, was living in the family of Luke and Sarah Eller at the age of 72. Luke and Sarah Eller lived in Ashe Co., NC and had children. [Biographies of their children and grandchildren follow in the book.]
Mary Eller (called Polly), b. 23 Mar 1808; d. 3 Jan 1908; m. Aaron Latham. They lived at Clifton, NC and had children. [Biographies of their children follow in the book.]
Elizabeth Eller, m. Larkin Maxwell. [Biographies of their children follow in the book.]
Peter Eller. He is said by one source to have married twice and to have had several children. By another source he is said to have made several trips back and forth between NC and Arkansas and Texas and never to have married. A Peter Eller, farmer, aged 50 is shown in the 1860 census of Ashe Co., NC with a wife Sarah of same age and children as shown below. He is not listed in either the 1850 or 1870 census. [Biographies of their children and grandchildren follow in the book.]
Nancy Eller, m. Samuel Jones. [Biographies of their children follow in the book.]
William Eller, m. Susanna Eller. She was the daughter of John Eller Jr. (John, Peter, George Michael) and his wife Elizabeth Ray Vannoy. [Biographies of their children follow in the book.]
Susannah Eller, m. David Roland. [Biographies of their children follow in the book.]
Sarah Eller, m. as his first wife David Miller. After her death he m. Mar 1842, as his 2nd wife, Mary Eller, dau. of John Eller Jr. (John, Peter, George Michael) and his wife Elizabeth Ray Vannoy. [Biography of their child follows in the book.]
John Eller, b. 1822; m. Catherine Eldreth, b. 1824. He and his wife Catherine are shown in the 1850, 1860, and 1870 censuses of Ashe Co., NC, at ages of 28, 37, and 49 and 26, 35, and 46 respectively. Their children as shown on these census lists... [Biographies of their children follow in the book.]
David Eller, b. 1 Nov 1826; d. 24 Mar 1901; m. 30 Oct 1852, Katherine Baker, b. 1833; d. 22 Feb 1903. They are said to have had 9 children, only 6 of whom, as follows, lived to maturity. [Biographies of their children follow in the book.]"

      6. Several family researchers indicate Luke White is probably the father of Catherine, but it is not proven. Please note that Catherine does in fact name one of her sons Luke, which may be more than coincidence. If this is true and judging from Catherine's age, Luke would have had to be married before he married Peter Eller's widow, Elizabeth Dick, after Peter's death in 1799. Some speculate that this first marriage may have been to Elizabeth Yokely, but I have not seen any documentation for this yet.

"Elizabeth Dick, daughter of Conrad and Catherine Dick married Peter Eller, son of George Michael Eller, who moved to what is now Ashe County, N. Car. from Frederick County, Md. Their land adjoined that of her father and presumed brother, John. They had at least 8 children:
