  RESEARCH_NOTES: 1. FHL book 929.242 G868f "The Greswold Family, 12 Generations in England," researched and edited by Robert L. and Esther G. French, comp. by Coralee Griswold [Wethersfeld, CT; 1999]. The authors standardize spelling as Greswold for England and Griswold for America. As of 2012, it appears that this book is the most current evolution of the Griswold ancestry and includes all previous research up to 1999 when it was published. (It also supersedes the author's own work in 1990 for the later English generations). "John8 Greswold (John7, John6, John5, William4, Richard3, Ralph2, John1) was born about 1472 in Rowington, Warwickshire, England. John died 20 Jun 1515 in Rowington, Warwickshire, England. [The IPM is at Warwick 26 Feb 1516/17. (My notebook says this is in Glenn Griswold's notes but I cannot find it. It should give the heirs).] His will was dated 9 Dec 1511. In the 1993 draft of this genealogy, Robert French had another generation in here which was omitted in the two subsequent drafts and the 1996 printing. It is now restored. John9 [son of this John] of South Rookery who lived until 1582 must have been born pretty close to 1510. The generation which includes him, Roger9, 1504-1545 [son of this John] and Thomas9 1495-1578 [son of this John] seems to fit the material we have but they require a parent, a John8 who was of Rowington, but not of South Rookery. He would be the younger brother of Richard8 and their children were roughly contemporary. It is highly unlikely that their father was John6 Greswold who was definitely born in 1414 (i.e. age 86 at the birth of his oldest grandchild, 15.Richard8). There are two (or three) Rowington Greswolds who were born at the turn of the century between 1490-1510 who are too young to be the children of John.6 John8 had 3 children: i. Thomas Greswold, born about 1495, died 1578. ii. Roger Greswold, born about 1504, died before 27 Jan 1545/1546. iii. John Greswold, the Elder born about 1510, died 15 May 1583."
