  • Notes
    • Need to confirm that Frederick Herbert Hall is the father. Why would she be born in Washington (1900 Census)?

      sent 11/2/16 Message on Ancestry.com
      Vicky,
I have been working on my wife (Julie Tarbert)'s family line. It is great to find that you have a lot of sources attached to Bessie Hall, the daughter of Edith Hall Odle on your tree (Tarbert/Kress Family Tree) at Ancestry.com. It is puzzling how she fits into the family. She could be the daughter of Edith's first husband Fred Hall and she is listed as the step-daughter of Alfred Odle. I question whether the sources attached to Bessie on the Tarbert/Kress Family Tree are correct for the following reasons:
The only record that I have of Bessie Hall is in the 1900 census. -Bessie Hall Jun 1893, age 6, Osborn, Shoshone, Idaho, White, Female, Step Daughter of Alfred Odle, age 56, England, Mother: Edith Odle, age 36, England. Step Brother Fred E Hall.
The Bessie Hall attached in the 1910 census of Red Bluff Township, Tehama, California looks like it could possibly be the same Bessie Hall that we find in the 1900 census. She is ten years older, born in Washington, and both of her parents are from England. We can surmise the follow: J. W. Cook is the husband of Pearl Cook and they have a two year old daughter Muriel. Pearl Cook, L.L. Hall and Diasy Winger are sisters and they are all born in Michigan. Winger maybe their Maiden name. L. L. Hall is the mother of Bessie, Saml & Ferne. (It was noted in the census that she had three children that are still living.) Bessie's mother's birth place is wrong in the census. if L.L. Hall is the mother. It should be Michigan.
In another 1900 census in Spokane, Washington, we found Lettie Hall, her three children - Bessie, Samual H. and Fern and her two sisters Pearl and Daisey in the household of Samual & Elisabeth Winger. Bessie's birth date in this census is Apr 1894, with her mother's birthplace in Michigan. This doesn't agree with our original 1900 census. <https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:MMPR-R9Q>
Familysearch.org has a "Birth Return" #1312 Bessie Emily Hall born on 4/28/1894 at Little Deep Creek, Spokane, Washington. Mother's maiden name: Winger. Father's name: Alfred Hall of England.
Familysearch.org has Bessie married to Victor harry Von Werlhof.
The attached 1920 census has Bessie B Summerfield with both parents born in Canada. It also lists Leslie R. Summerfield as her husband. You can view their Certificate of Marriage at Washington State Archives -Digital (see link below). It says that Bessie B. Hall, age19, was born in Washington. It lists her father as Horton Hall and her mother as Letitia Smiley. They were born in Nova Scotia, Canada. http://www.digitalarchives.wa.gov/DigitalObject/View/4DCBDFBA636649A7B210DA31B85CBD4F

It looks like the other sources attached to our Bessie follow in the same vein, and also are not correct.
In conclusion, I believe that all the records attached to Bessie Hall, except for the 1900 census are not correct for Bessie and should be removed. The Leslie Summerfield and the Summerfield children should be unconnected from Bessie. Her birth date should be changed to Jun 1893, Washington. I would like to find her, Fred E Hall (step brother) and mother Edith in the 1910 census. I am also looking for the divorce records of Edith Hurry from her first husband, Frederick Herbert Hall and her second husband, Alfred Odle. Let me know if I am missing something, I just trying to make these records as accurate as possible.
