- RESEARCH_NOTES:
1. There is not much yet to work with for this Samuel and he is included as a son of Isaac only because of his proximity to probable brother Isaac in Franklin, Warren, Ohio in 1820 and 1830 censuses. I did not find anything for Samuel in my survey of FHL book holdings on Warren co. He shows up so far only in the early censuses and a land record.
2. Censuses:
Censuses:
1820 US: Franklin Twp., Warren, Ohio, 7 Aug 1820, p. 7 (bro. Isaac is on p. 11):
S. Winer, males: 3<10, 1@10-15, 1@16-25; female: 1@26-44. (The age of the oldest male, presumably Samuel, looks off considering the age of the younger children.)
1830 US: Franklin, Warren, Ohio, p. 17 (brother Isaac is 3 pages away):
Samuel Winner, males: 1@5-9, 1@40-49; females: 1<5, 2@5-9, 1@30-39, 1@50-59. [The oldest female could perhaps be the Samuel's mother-in-law.] (William Ashton, son of Hannah Johnson, sister of Naomi who married Samuel's father Isaac, is listed on previous page.
1840 US: Cannot find in Warren Co. Perhaps he died or moved away.
3. Don Thomas email 24 Jun 2004 concerning land records:
"On 10 June Samuel Winner of Warren county purchased 80.76 acres of land "west of the Greater Miami" in Montgomery County - that's just north of Franklin - and was patented by BLM.
On 1 Nov. 1830 Isaac Winner of Waren county purchasd 80.44 acres "West of the Greater Miami" in Montgomery county. I didn't follow up on Samuel, but Isaac died in 1832 and I find no record of this land, nor did I find any record of it being sold prior to his death."
4. Ancestry.com's "Ohio Land Records": "Samuel Winner. Land Office: Cincinnati. Document Number: 654. Total Acres: 80.76. Signature: Yes. Canceled Document: No. Issue Date: 1 Jun 1826. Metes and Bounds: No. Statutory Reference: 3 Stat. 566. Multiple Warantee Names: No. Act or Treaty: April 24, 1820. Multiple Patentee Names: No Entry. Classification: Sale-Cash Entries Land Description: 1, W½NE, WEST of The GREAT MIAMI, No 6 N, 4 E, 30."
5. It is speculated that brother Isaac and his wife may both died from a cholera epidemic in the area in 1832 to 1833. Perhaps Samuel did so also.
I also checked adjoining Montgomery County for mentions of Winner and found none except for a civil action involving Isaac Winner of Warren co. as an administrator for a third-party probate.
ACTION:
1. Check tax lists for Warren Co. for Samuel.
