- RESEARCH_NOTES:
1. Ancestry.com's "Latvia: Courland Registers and Family Lists, 1845-1874" in partnership with JewishGen lists the following from Piltene. The information tentatively would indicate Levin had a son Joseph whose wife was Jette from the two entries below, which has a shared family and tax number (see notes of father-in-law Levin for more context):
A. Jossel Herzenberg, age 40 in 1871, b. abt 1831, registration town Piltene, father Levin, Recruit's Enlistment register, Fond #630, family number 54, Oklad (tax reference) # 232.
B. Jette Herzenberg, 1871, registration town Piltene, Recruit's Enlistment register, Fond #630, family number 54, Oklad (tax reference) # 232.
2. The Latvian Archives is online and I have reviewed all Registers for Pilten. Registers are in German and I indicate what I don't understand. I extracted all Herzenbergs of which the following excerpts apply to this family:
