1. Miscellaneous comments from Worldconnect accessed 14 Feb 2010 has undocumented surname of Smith.
2. The periodical "The New York Genealogical and Biographical Record," 120[1989]:10-17, 94-97, 160-163; 121[1990]:221-225, etc., "Descendants of the Rev. Richard Denton," by Walter C. Krumm. I have divided up this article and included each generation with the individual detailed (see notes of Rev. Richard Denton for summary of all other publications and researchers prior to this publication):
"Nathaniel2 Den (Rictonhard1), born (at least baptised) at Turton, Bolton Priory, Lancashire in early 1629, died Jamaica, Long Island in 1690 before 18 October (JTR 2:317-8). As the eldest son he probably married by 1653 in Hempstead, Long Island to a bride identified in 1664 and 1689 records only as Sarah (BDC 73 and JTR 1:316, 319). Combes added a last name of "Smith," citing the will of Nathaniel3, Jr., who referred to one "Nathaniel Smith" as his "cousin." Solid evidence is lacking for this conjecture, and there may be another explanation for Nathaniel, Jr.'s reference...
Nathaniel's three sons can be identified from the land grants he made to them while he lived (e.g., JTR 2:272-3, 315-9); he also had one and possibly two daughters. Their birthdates and chronological order remain uncertain.
Children of Nathaniel and Sarah (___) Denton, all born in either Hempstead (pre-1656) or Jamaica, Long Island:
i. Nathaniel3, b. say 1653.
ii. Samuel, b. say 1655.
iii. Richard, b. say 1658.
iv. Phebe, b. say 1662, m. John Foster. In their wills Nathaniel3 named "brother Foster," and Richard3 "brother ... John Foster," as an overseer (WNYHS 2:220; REC. 65:248; Combes, 15).
v. Maria, b. say 1664, bap. 18 June 1664 (BDC 73)."
