1. The periodical "The New York Genealogical and Biographical Record," 120[1989]:10-17, 94-97, 160-163; 121[1990]:221-225, etc., "Descendants of the Rev. Richard Denton," by Walter C. Krumm. I have divided up this article and included each generation with the individual detailed (see notes of Rev. Richard Denton for summary of all other publications and researchers prior to this publication):
"Clement [Denton], b. say 1681-2 (not 18 in 1699); m. (1) c.1700 Ebenezer Smith of Norwalk, Conn., who d. Jamaica 1717, (2) John Gregory of Norwalk, Conn. She had 6 children by her first husband: Robert, John, Mary, Abraham, Ebenezer, and Samuel; and was still alive in 1734 (TAG 25:80)."
2. "Ancestors and Descendants of Henry Gregory," compiled by Grant Gregory, 1938, pp. 67-69:
"John Gregory III, b. 1676 or 1677; d. 18 Jan. 1751/1752, in 75th year; bur. in East Norwalk cem; m. (1) a dau. of Robert Seeley, prob. his dau. Sarah, bap. 23 Aug. 1686, but b. abt. 1680; m. (2) Clement, b. 1681 or later, dau. of Samuel Denton, blacksmith of Jamaica, L.I., and prob. of his wife, Mary. Clement was widow of Ebenezer Smith of Jamaica. John jr. and Nehemiah Gregory, John Betts, and Sarah, his wife, all of Nk., and children and son-in-law of John III, 19 Apr. 1750, conveyed land in Fairfield that had belonged to "our grandfather," Robert Seeley, of Ffld., deceased. Denton Gregory was a witness. Robert was a son of Nathaniel Seeley of Ffld.p; m. Sarah Olmstead and had a dau. Sarah. Ebenezer Smith had sons Abraham, Ebenezer, Robert, John and Samuel and a dau. Mary, who m. John Gregory IV. If Clement was the mother of this Abraham, there can be no doubt of her marriage to John Gregory III. In his will, 19 Mar. 1733/34, Abraham mentioned by name his brothers and sister, Mary Gregory, and gave land to his mother, "provided she outlive my honored father-in-law, John Gregory, his mother to take possession on becoming a widow. Father-in-law meant step father. The naming of a son of John III Denton and of a daughter of Denton, Clemens or Clemon, clinches the case for Clement as wife of John III. The mother of Robert Smith, son of Ebenezer, "was honored by a Jamaica public vote," which makes Clement one of the earliest of "modern" women. The will of Samuel Denton, 13 Mar. 1698/99, ment. wife Mary; children Samuel, Jacamiah, Solomon, Hezekiah, Sarah, Clement, not yet 18 years old, and Mary. "Sarah Seeley's parents were Sarah Olmsted and Robert Seeley. Sarah Olmsted was the daughter of Sgt. Nehemiah Olmsted and Elizabeth Burr. A descendant of the Olmsteds is 13th president Millard Fillmore (1800-1874) -- president 1850-1853. Sarah was the oldest of six children, the oldest male child also named Nehemiah, undoubtedly named after his maternal grandfather. Sarah Seeley Gregory's son Nehemiah is the first Nehemiah in the Gregory line. Sarah's paternal grandfather was Capt. Nathan Seeley, killed in the Great Swamp Fight in Rhode Island in 1675, the bloodiest day of King Philip's War, in which the Narraganset Indians were virtually annihilated."
