- RESEARCH_NOTES:
1. Caution! Hans may be either the brother or father of Christian Stocker. Currently I show him as the father based on a 20-year difference in death dates, a shared occupation of carpenter, and the exclusivity of these two men in G(H)ennenbach in Feldberg at the same time. The following is my Apr. 2017 conversation with fellow researcher Noel Stocker:
My question to Noel:
I was looking at my notes and I had the following based on Price's research:
"His great-grandparents are Christian Stocker and Margretha Wackerin (which may be the feminine version of Wacker). Christian was reported deceased in Feldberg prior to his son's 1680 marriage. His death at age 64 is recorded in Feldberg on 16 Apr 1669 calling him a "citizen and carpenter in Gennenbach." His birth calculates as about 1605. Besides his son Friedrich's 1652 christening in Feldberg, there are four other children of Christian Stocker "a carpenter of Gennenbach" and his wife Margaretha christened in Feldberg from 1650 to 1655. It is in one of these other christenings that we learn of Margretha's maiden surname. Christian most likely had some relationship with Hans Stocker, also a carpenter in Gennenbach, who d. 25 Jan 1649 per Feldberg records; the relationship may be as siblings or even as father and son, but it has not yet be determined for sure one way or another."
Do you feel stronger about a parental relationship than one of siblings? You are closer to this than I am and I will defer to you and change my notes accordingly once I hear back from you."
Noel's response:
"Robyn and I felt impressed to link Christian to Hans based on the fact that they both lived in Gennenbach at the same time and both were carpenters. Christian died in 1669 and Hans in 1649. Twenty years apart seemed reasonable for father-son. I haven't been able to find the documentation, perhaps it doesn't exist."

3. Emails from August 2018 from Noel Stocker
A. From a July 2018 research report from RW Price to Noel Stoker. The Feldberg records were searched for christenings and deaths 1639-1739 and marriages 1639-1721. All entries up to 1721 are on film 1189398 item 5. The christenings between 1722 and 1739 are on film 1189398 item 6. They found the oldest Stockers in the database were the following as quoted from the report:
-- Hans Stocker (born about 1600 and died 25 January 1649 in Feldberg) with children: Hans Heinrich Stocker (married to Ursula Muller), Anna Stocker (married to Friedrich Kleinhenne), and Verena Stocker (married to Peter Hertzog). Having this death date, places this Hans as the previously found Hans, born about 1580, who was placed as father of the ancestor, Christian (LRT1-Z9R). It appears we already attached Heinrich to this Hans, but I went ahead and attached Anna and Verena. Previously we had Verena/Verona attached as daughter of a Hans with no other information. The burial record reads that he was buried on the 25th and was ill in bed for 9 days prior to his death. He was a carpenter (the type who construct roof frames on homes) from Gennenbach.
-- David Stocker (born about 1615 in Switzerland) married to Margretha and with son, Hanss Stocker (1649-1663). Hans was born in Switzerland but his burial was in Feldberg. David Stocker was not in the 2017 September report nor can I yet find the family on Family Tree.
The Gennenbach parish was contacted and the response was that there are no additional parish records in existence at the present day for Gennenbach.
Hans Stocker born about 1600 and died 25 January 1649. This would make him the same person as the Hans we already knew about and placed as father of the ancestor, Christian. But, Milan had him also as father of Anna and Verena. He was a carpenter. Do we know the occupation of Christian? If he was also a carpenter, that might add more credibility to Hans being the father.
David Stocker, born about 1615 in Switzerland. He was married to Margretha with son Hanss Stoker (1649-1663). Hans was also born in Switzerland, but his burial was in Feldberg.
B. Noel's hired researcher Milan Pohontsch [mpohontsch@gmail.com] confirmed the following entry on July 29, 2018 on a thorough research of the Feldberg church records. The image is for the burial of David's son Hanss Stocker (buried 1 September 1663.) The image is at https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:3Q9M-CSWC-GQBT-M?i=529&cat=133625 (image 530) on the Feldberg film. Milan translates the record as:
"On the 1st of September, of David Stocker from the Swiss land of Bottenwyl [not sure about spelling, but there exists a Bottenwil in the Canton of Aargau] and Margaretha, his house wife, their 14-year old son: Hannß
Milan also notes: "I haven't a Swiss gazetteer here, but the church building could be Zofingen (my guess without checking)."
C. So how are you accounting for the new David Stocker -- as a brother to Christian (and son of the original Hans) or as a sibling to Hans? I note that David has a son named Hans, which seems to perhaps indicate some familial relationship since the name Hans is recycled. In any case David's origins in Switzerland seems to be providential. Perhaps the Rottwell we were looking for before is the same as David's Bottenwil?
D. Franz Anton Stocker from our research in Oberotweil in Germany was from Canton Aargau is of particular interest since Bottenwyl is also in Argau.
3. Email dated 19 Jun 2019 from Noel Stocker. This email was in response to some indexed records I found and attached on Family Search:
"See below Milan’s translation and comments. I am happy to confirm that Hans, who died in 1649, is the father of Christian, Heinrich, Verona, and Anna. Also that Anna was the name of his wife. It does not give us a clue as to where they came from, as ‘Kirchen’ is not evident in the record according to Milan."

Milan was finally able to get to your questions. He had his daughter visiting from Germany and then had several unexpected issues come up that he had to take care of. So, here is his answer. I hope this helps. - Diane
From Milan:
In the two marriage records (see links sent by Noel) I can't see anywhere the word "Kirchen". I see Gennenbach and Feldberg, but no Kirchen.
When I compare the information gained from the marriage records, then Heinrich Stocker is very likely a younger brother of Christian (abt.1605-1669) and a son of Hans (abt.1580-1649). In this case, Heinrich's and Christian's mother would be Anna, a name not recorded yet in the PAF-version I have from an older project. The marriage record of Heinrich (from 1656) lists Hans Stocker as deceased. According to prior research he did die in 1649. The other marriage entry would then be for Anna, the widow of Hans, who remarried in 1651 (with Uhlin Müller). Also the towns Gennenbach and Feldberg fit perfectly into the picture.
And the link to the christening is definitely a son of Heinrich Stocker. Two of the three documents mentioned here, with the exception of the 2nd marriage of Anna, were already found during the March 2018 project. The data was entered by me into a separate PAF-file. I assume that in the meantime they found it's way into FamilySearch. It would be easy to connect those families.
Since Noel asked for a translation of the marriage record, here it is:
On the Sexagesina Sunday (which was on the 10 Feb., in 1656) were married Heinrich Stocker of Gennenbach, legitimate son of the deceased Hans Stocker, the late citizen and carpenter of the same town, married with Ursula, legitimate daughter of the deceased Hans Müller, the late citizen and finish carpenter of Veldtberg (=Feldberg). Because of poverty, the couple was married in their home without an appropriate ceremony and without an invitation for any wedding guests."
