  • Notes
      1. Surprisingly there is no information on "Safrona" Reed in the book "The Israel Barlow Story" except a mention as a spouse on a family group record.

      2. Reviewed Worldconnect 9 Jul 2005.
Database "rgcottrell" has a Sophronia Pricillia Reid, b. 7 Jun 1842 in Nauvoo, d. 23 Mar 1870 in Ogden, with father: John Henderson Reid, b. 12 Dec 1815 in Louisville, KY and d. 19 Feb 1862 in Council Bluffs, Iowa; and Sophronia Prentis, b. 29 Mar 1817 in VA and d. 23 Oct 1846 in Portland, Van Buren, IA. The parents are shown married 24 Dec 1837 and the father remarries 24 Dec 1846 to a sister of Sophronia Prentis: Almira. Besides Sophronia Pricillia, John and Sophronia have another daughter: Almira Reid b. 22 May 1840 in Woodsville, Adams, IL, d. 23 Jul 1912 in Lago, Bannock, ID, and married to William Wood Hall 3 Oct 1858 in Council Bluffs and perhaps later to Enos Mamurry Huddleston whom she divorces. There may be some inconsistencies with the info on William Hall because the same William Wood Hall is shown also married to Almira's sister, Soph. Pric., abt 1863 [but it could be conceivable]. The database shows a second marriage of Soph. Pric. to Truman Root Barlow - this certainly would be in error since Truman died in 1860 - so it would have had to be the first marriage.
Another database "riceedmund" notes the same Reid family but with two additional Children: Joseph Sidney, b. 10 Oct 1838 and d. 10 Dec 1838 in Clinton, MO and Elizabeth Louisa, b. 30 Jun 1845 in Nauvoo and d. 17 Oct 1846. John Reid is shown marrying both the two Prentiss sisters in the same sequence as above. No spouse given for any of the children except Almira with William Wood Hall.
Ancestral File has similar information without further data on marriage with Truman Barlow.

      3. Censuses:
1840 US: Hancock Co., Illinois, pg. 1, all occurring together in sequence:
John Reed [possible relation of Sophrona Reed?], males 2@5-10, 1@15-20, 1@50-60; females 2@10-15, 1@50-60.
      Israel Barlow, males 1@10-15, 1@40-50; females 1@20-30.
      Truman Barlow, males 1@20-30.
      Edwd. Thomson, males 1@70-80; females 1 @50-60
Joh'than W. Barlow [separate from above names by one family named Albert Rockwood], males 1@30-40.

1860 US: Big Grove Post Office, Center Township, Pottawattamie Co., Iowa, p. 124, 17 Jul 1860, family #835 (next door is George J. Reed, age 32, of Indiana):
John H. Reed, 44, shinglemaker, $100, $900, Kentucky [probable father to Sophronia]
      Sophrona Barlow, 18, housework, $0, $100, Illinois.

1870 US: East Weber, Weber, UT, 3 Jul 1870, 53/53:
      William Hall, 38, Eng.
      A. Jane Hall, 30, IL.
      Joseph S. A. Hall, 14, IA.
      Sophronia Hall, 5, UT.
      C.M.A. Hall, 3, UT.
      William Hall, 5m, UT.
      Amelia Savage, 18, Eng.
      John Stefle, 28, PA.

      4. See notes of husband for detail of land transactions after his death in which Sophronia is involved. Also mentions her father.

      1. Per website "Pottawattamie County Iowa Marriages of Original Court Records, Clerk of the District Court, 1848 - 1880." (Extracted from Microfilm. Further records can be found in microfilms at the LDS Library, FHL microfilms 1018501 through 1018509 and microfilm 227280 for years 1848-1856.): "Barlow, Truman R.; Reel, Sophronia P. 25 Dec 1856, Reel family of Crescent and Loveland, IA." [Kerry's note: judging from 1860 census, I believe the last name was perhaps transcribed wrong and should be Reed. The added note in the posted database of Reel family of Crescent and Loveland, IA" I believe to be in error.]

      1. Probably died in childbirth since the 1870 census shows a child William age 5 months in July, which would be 4 months after Sophronia died.

      1. As of 22 Sep 2012, I could not find a burial entry for Sophronia Hall online at the Ogden City Cemetery nor the Utah Digital Newspaper collection (Ogden's newspaper starts in 1879).

      Myers: Submission 4-5116-2280-3561-584.
Hall: Online Ordinance Index FHL film 456953, 1 Oct 1873, William Wood Hall, b. 23 May 1832 at London, London, England, d. 23 Dec 1881 at Snowville, Box Elder, Utah, parents William Hall and Frances Wood. This was a posthumous sealing at the instance of her sister to her sister's husband. Apparently Sophronia's last husband, ___ Myers, abandoned the family in the cold winter in North Ogden Utah which led to Sophronia's death as well as that of her daughter Sophronia Permelia Myers, both in 1870.
Reid: Posthumous sealing per online Ordinance Index FHL film 1239575, ref. 3431, 11 Mar 1897 SLAKE, John Thomas Reid, b. 1 Sep 1836 in Ray Co., MO, and Sophronia Priscilla Reid, b. 1845 and d. 1872. (Kerry's note: not sure why this sealing occurred.)
