Thank you very much for your letter received today. I was so thrilled to hear that she was still alive and 97 years of age. That is amazing! I have obviously not heard from her close to the time she left Nice to live in Chateauroux. She came over to visit me in 1979 in Anchorage, Alaska. I paid for her trip here and we took another trip while she visited me. I love her very much and I have no idea why and how I offended her. The only thing I can imagine that I did not answer her letters promptly as that was one of my shortcomings. We have raised 5 children, have been married very happily for 64 years and my husband Jack passed away 2 years ago on May 27th 2014. We have 26 grand children and soon to be 52 great-grandchildren. I will be 83 on 9th of August.
I came over to the United States in 1950 at age 16 as a Nanny to small children and wasn't able to go back to Nice till 1959 with my 3 children to see my Mother and Nicolas de Lanskoy my legal father. I stayed for 6 months in Vence. If you could plead for me to Nevoussia that I love her very much and that I apologize for any way that I offended her and please tell her that I love her and admire all her accomplishments. I also want to thank you for the work you do. I too am very hard of hearing. Hearing aids only amplify noise and not comprehension. With my kind regards and gratitude, Irene. Hello again,
I visited Mme De Lanskoy this morning, she agrees for me to write back to you. It seems she has received your letter although she did not speak directly about it. She was very touched to hear from you but she does not feel able to write back or give you any news. She thinks she is approaching her death and wishes only to be at peace. Moreover, given her age she has some memory problems that disturb her understanding and her feelings. I cannot give you any detail concerning her medical history (confidential data). But do not take her response personally. She remembers when you came to visit and it warms her heart. Nevertheless for her it is a closed chapter, it feels like another life to her.
I hope I was able to give you some kind of closure. If anything should happen to Mme De Lanskoy, I have arranged for you to be kept informed.
