    • MARRIAGE:
      1. I question the accuracy of a marriage of Truman Root and Mary Spencer. The following is from the book "Families of Early Hartford, Connecticut," Lucius Barnes Barbour, 1982 ed. which would seem to indicate other spouses for Thomas Root Sr. and Jr.:
"Thomas Root died July 17, 1694 (Northampton). Early member 1 Ch. Name on Founders monument. Moved to Northampton. Children:
Joseph, m. Hannah Haynes m/2 Mary (Holton) Burr.
      Thomas, m. Abigail Alvord.
John, b. June 10, 1646 (HTR) m. Mehitable (Johnson) Hinsdale.
      Jonathan, m. Ann Gull.
      Hezekiah, m. Mehitable Frary.
      Jacob, m. Mary Frary.
      Sarah, m. Samuel Kellogg.
Salem 1637; on original proprietor at Hartford in 1639 when his home lot was on the east side of the road to the Cow pasture (North Main St.); weaver; served in the Pequot War; founders of the church. He died at great age. Believed to be the son of John Root and Ann Russell, his wife, of Badly, Co. Northampton, b. Jan 16, 1605."

      2. The following partial excerpts about the wives and children of Thomas Spencer are from "The Great Migration Begins: Immigrants to New England 1620-1633," Volumes I-III (see notes of Thomas Spencer for full transcript):
      "...Mary, b. Hartford 18 May 1655 [CTVR 32]; m. Westfield 7 October 1675 Thomas Root [Pynchon VR 31]..."

      3. "The American Genealogist," Vol. 27 "The Four Spencer Brothers: Their Ancestors and Descendants," compiled by Donald Lines Jacobus, M. A., pp. 162-63:
      "Mary [Spencer], b. 18 May 1655; d. at Westfield, Mass., 4 Nov. 1690; m. 7 Oct. 1675, Thomas Root, who d. 16 Aug. 1709, son of John."

      4. RESEARCH_NOTES:
