"Nathaniel, the son of Thomas, was born 24 October 1683 in Enfield, Connecticut (Freshwater Brook, Springfield, Massachusetts, at that time.) He was a resident of Springfield in 1708, and West Springfield, Massachusetts. He was mentioned in his father, Thomas' will in 1684, and at the settlement of the estate in 1703-1704. He married Ruth Haile (daughter of Gershome and Ann (Hale) Haile; intention recorded 20 November 1708. There is a quaint record at Springfield that reads 'November 20, 1708, Nathaniel Bancroft doth enter his intention of his marriage with Ruth Haile, both of Springfield and their publishment was posted the same day.'
Nathaniel Bancroft and his wife Ruth of Springfield sold 3 parcels of land in Enfield, adjoining that of Thomas Bancroft, to Israel Phelps, December 1714. He resided at West Springfield briefly, where the births of part of his children are recorded.
November 1, 1728, father in law Gershome Haile, sold to Nathaniel Bancroft of Springfield, 4 acres of land west of the Connecticut River and south of the Agawam River. Will recorded at Northampton, Massachusetts is dated 3 December 1752, that was probably probated 20 January, 1753, thus fixing the date of death about Christmas time. This fixes his death between these two dates.
Ruth, the widow, joined the church in 1753 and was living in 1753."
