      2. FHL book 974.761D2G "Early Families of Herkimer County New York, Descendants of the Burnetsfield Palatines," by William V.H. Barker, Genealogical Publishing Co., Inc., Baltimore, 1986, preface: "In 1664 the British took control of New York State and the Mohawk Valley area came under the jurisdiction of Albany County from that time until about 1774 when it became Tryon county (in 1784 the area was renamed as Montgomery county, the western portion of which was set off in 1791 as Herkimer County). In modern times, Herkimer County bounded by Oneida County on the west and by Montgomery and Fulton Counties on the east." [N.B. Tryon was changed to Montgomery because Tryon followed the Tory cause whereas Montgomery was a patriot.]

      4. Excerpts from a letter of March 24, 1966 in the Marlette family file at the Montgomery County, NY, Archives addressed to the Archivist:
"...Without a doubt, the Michael Melatt and wife, Margret Frederick, who came here to Monroe co. - are the same, as these you found in the Montgomery Co., Fonda Church Records. Also, probable desc. of the Gideon Merlet, a French Huguenot, who came to New York from Holland in 1662. But we do not have proof of this, yet.
      Will list what we have...

From Monroe Co., NY Surrogate's Office: Abstract: Michael Marlatt, A 2-315, 1838 27, Petition of Mark Marlatt of T. Mendon, Monroe Co., NY, showeth that Michael Marlatt of said Town... died 4 July 1837... left a widow, Margaret Marlett, residing in Mendon... who has duly renounced her right to Lett. Adm. and your petitioner is a son of said deceased. Bonded: Mark Marlatt, Enoch Marlatt, Cholett Cady. Inventory: includes a note signed by Enoch Marlatt. On another paper, Margaret renounces right to Adm., signed in presence of Daniel and Enoch Marlatt.

      5. The book "History of Montgomery and Fulton Counties, N.Y.," reprinted 2002 (originally printed in the 1880s): "The Development of Business Centers [in Glen Township]... Mill Point, on Schoharie creek, was another collection of houses, and necessarily a business centre in early times. A German of some means, named Francis Saltz, having settled on the east bank of the creek, about the middle of the last century, joined with one 'Boss' Putman in purchasing the Shucksburg patent of 1200 acres, across the creek in the present town of Glen. Saltz took the half of the patent furthest up stream, from which he sold the site of Mill Point to a son-in-law named McCready. The next farm back of this to another son-in-law, George Young; a third farm to his grandson, Francis Frederick, and a fourth to Michael Marlett, who married Peggy Frederick. The 200 acres remaining Saltz offered to deed to Peter Crush [or Grosch], if the latter would marry his youngest daughter, a cripple, unable to walk. Crush accepted the offer, and having built a house on the tract, carried his wife to it on his back. They spent their days on the place, and left it to their only son, Francis..."

      BIRTH:
      1. The Philip Frederick Mill dates from 1750 according to the New York state historical highway marker sign. Maria Saltz's father lived just down the road. This would help us surmise that all of their children were born at "Millpoint" within the modern boundaries of Florida township in Montgomery County. Millpoint still shows up on modern-day maps and was probably named after the Frederick Mill. See Philip's notes for more on this mill and its present-day location.

      2. From the book "Compendium of Early Mohawk Valley Families," by Maryly B. Penrose, v. 1, p. 282, Birth/Baptism: "Frederick, Phillip and Sophia (Salts):

New York, unknown, 1917, 748 pp.: Margarita, dau. of Philip Frederick and Sophia Saltz, confirmed 1758 with sponsors Pieter Jong and Margariet Jong.

      2. LDS IGI Extracted record per FHL film 0534214, printout 1205003, batch C511311 for Margarita Frederick, child of Philip Frederick and Sophia Saltz, christened 1758 in the Reformed Protestant Dutch Church of Caughnawaga, Fonda, Montgomery, New York.

      MARRIAGE:
      1. Their marriage would have to have been before the 1790 census. In the 1790 census they may have had four children. Per the 1830 census, their son Enoch living next to them in Mendon Township, Monroe Co., NY, was born between 1790 and 1800. Their daughter Eva was born 1796. Assume a marriage of bef 1790.

      DEATH:
      1. Was alive at time of husband's probate after his death of 4 Jul 1837 per probate information quoted above.
