    • RESEARCH_NOTES:
      1. The 1703 Assessment for Stockbury shows both a James Knight the elder and James Knight the younger. The elder is most likely James (1651-1709) and the younger is his son James (1674-1720). The former is at the bottom of one page and the latter at the top of the next page; they are separated by eight names. It is noted that they are "Beyond ye Church";
      -James Knight ye Elder - 07.00.00.09.04.00.00
      -James Knight ye younger - 02.00.00.02/08.00.[torn].

      Comments:
      1.
      2. The second wife of James Knight, Elizabeth Eagles, has been thought by some have been buried in 1724; however, the parish record had detail not found in the Archdeacon's Transcript, i.e. "Elizabeth Knight, wid. of late Wm. Knight of Coulsfld., bur. 20 Apr 1724." This then cannot be Elizabeth Eagles. The parish records have another entry for "Elizabeth Knight Widow bur. 29 Feb 1735/6." The parish record itself contains an additional detail which gives an age of 62. Our Elizabeth was bapt. 23 Apr 1679 and would have been age 65. There is one other Widow Elizabeth Knight in the parish as evidenced by the use of that name in the death of her son Richard Knight 17 Dec 1722 -- from Parish records she appears to maybe being the wife of Richard Knight and the son may be the same Richard Knight chr. 2 Dec 1792 since he and his father are the only ones in the parish record named Richard. The records do not give the death of the father to prove that his wife Elizabeth was a widow at by 1722. It also is odd that the son Richard, if we are talking the same person, would have been 30 and then referred to the son of his mother at his burial (but it is possible especially if he were living with his mother.) In any case, which Elizabeth was buried in 1735/6? I assume ours since the Knights were more prominent in this parish, but it is not totally proven.
