OBITUARY:
1. "Salt Lake City - Orval Woodruff Hales, 81, of Salt Lake City, formerly of Ogden died Friday in a Salt Lake City nursing home of natural causes. Mr. Hales was born April 19, 1889, in Junction, a son of Charles Henry and Jemima Adair Hales. On July 20, 1909, he was married to Mary Ann Jensen in Junction. The couple later received their endowments in the Manti LDS Temmple. He had lived in Ogden most of his adult live. He was employed by the Southern Pacific Railroad Maintenance Division. Since his retirement in 1959 he had resided in California and Salt Lake City. He was a high priest and member of the Salt Lake North 17th Ward. He was a former member of the Junction Ward bishopric. Surviving are his widow, four sons and three daughters, Wendell V. Hales, Torrence, Calif.; Orval V. Hales, Lindsay, Calif.; Frank A. Hales, Miss Elaine Hales, both of Long Beach, Calif.; Larry J. Hales, Pleasanton, Calif.; Mrs. Fay (Wanda) Hammond, Salt Lake City, Mrs. Lyle (Roene) Knight, Big Bear, Calif.; 18 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted Monday at 11 a.m. at Lindquist and Sons Colonial Chapel. Friends may call at the mortuary Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Monday until time of services. Interment will be at the Washington Heights Memorial Park." Ogden Standard-Examiner, Sat., 5 Dec 1970, photo included.
