3. Appears to be Nathan Brigg's grandfather: Website: Www.genealogy of newengland.com/sjc: Nathan Briggs, b. 31 Mar 1727 at Berkley, Bristol, Massachusetts, d. 9 Apr 1813 at Ontario Co., NY. Parents are David Briggs and Sarah Babbitt. Marriage to Mary Talbot 7 Dec 1751 at Berkley, Bristol, MA. Mary was born 22 Mar 1724/25 to Josiah Talbot and Hannah Read. Six children born from 1753 to 1765 all in Dighton, Bristol, Mass. (Children and birthdates are listed.)
Note: Nathan had a son named Zenas Briggs, b. 30 Jan 1753 at Dighton, Bristol, Massachusetts. He married Ruth Codding. They have 5 sons all born in Bristol Co., Mass., including the eldest who dies in Ontario Co., NY. Some Worldconnect sites show this Nathan, but they can only state that he married a wife named Mary ___. This fits with Mary "Polly" Gillett. Nathan and Mary have four children beginning in 1811 of whom the youngest is Ruth born in 1818 with whom we find Mary Briggs in the 1850 census.
4. The book: "History of Ontario Co., NY," 1878, pgs. 114-120: History of Canandaigua: "On the northeast corner of lot No. 74, north of the present school-house, lived the pioneer tavern-keeper, Seth Holcomb, who came out in 1792, was made the recipient of various offices, and became a public man. Nathan Briggs succeeded to the place, and there resided for some time."
