      2. Amanda moved to Utah by being evidently "looked after" in San Bernardino upon her mother's death in 1853 and is the ancestor of many generations of Mormons. Copies of several generations are available from the Family Group Sheet Records of the Joseph Smith Building in SLC. Last name of "adoptive" family is BIRCHALL. Amanda did have a son named George Birchall Beagley. As she joined the Birchall family at age 7 [in 1861?] as the obituary reports below, under whose care was she from her mother's death in 1853 and the Mormons' departure from San Bernardino in about 1857?

      3. Grandfather of Daisy Van Wagoner, who may have been a bit unsure, wrote down name of BARNHURST. Handwritten note of Daisy Van Wagoner's grandfather who was great grandson to Mary Ann Winner through Cynthia Frederick left a confusing note perhaps in reference to Amanda that may be that "Mary Ann's sister's girl married Barnhurst." I checked family group sheets on file at Joseph Smith Library in SLC and found no likely Barnhursts. I believe name of "Barnhurst" is mistaken for "Birchall".

      BIOGRAPHY:
      1. Per letter of Enid Willardson to Wildra Welch, 350 Starcrest Drive, SLC, UT, 84116 [no date but after 1990]: "...I am sending you a family group sheet for George Birchall. So far as I know, they had no children. None are on the emigration or LDS records. However, after arriving in Utah, they took my grandmother [Amanda Jane Winner], then a girl of about 12 years, into their home. She lived with them until her marriaage. Since they had no known descendants, I obtained permission to work on their lines..."

      2. Adoption of Amanda Winner by George Birchall, if any, may have been de facto rather than legal. One note on a family group sheet says: "Amanda was raised by Birchall but never legally adopted".

      3. Per visit of Jack Petersen to Nephi 31 Aug 2000:
      a. Father listed as George Birchall in some records and Birchell in others. Also mentions George Winner.
      b. Born in San Bernardino 4 June 1852.
      c. Died 9 May 1919 due to cancer.
      d. Husband, Robert T. Beagley, born 7 Jul 1850 in Alton, Hampden, Hampshire, England; died 15 May 1931 in Nephi.
      e. Many children listed.

      OBITUARY:
      1. The Times-News, Nephi, Juab County, Utah, Friday, May 16, 1919: "Old Resident called to Great Beyond. Last Friday, May 9th, Mrs. Amanda Beagley, wife of Robert T. Beagley of this city, passed away after several weeks illness. The deceased was born June 4th, 1853, in San Bernardino, Calif. Her mother died when she was a baby and she was adopted at the age of seven years by George Birchall of this city and has resided in Nephi since that time. She was married early in life to Robert T. Beagley to which union nine children have been born, five of whom survive her. These are Mrs. C.J. Sperry, Harry and Egbert Beagley of Nephi, Mrs. H.B. Clyde of Springville and Mrs. J.F. Douglas of Axtell, Utah. She is also survived by her husband. Mrs Beagley was essentially a home loving woman finding her greatest happiness in caring for her family and attending to the duties of home. Funeral services were held in the Tabernacle Sunday afternoon, Bishop Bailey being in charge. The double mixed quartet, under the direction of Prof. Bird, rendered the selection "Sometime We'll Understand," after which prayer was offered by Bishop C.H. Grace. The speakers were W.A.C. Bryan, I.H. Grace and J.W. Paxan, each of whom spoke words of comfort to the family and told of the good qualities of the departed. The quartett then sang "Rock of Ages" and Mrs. Ralph Belliston rendered the sacred solo "Face to Face" and Miss Lutie Brough "Dry Those Tears." The benediction was given by J.C. Hall. The floral offerings were beautiful and profuse. The interment took place in Vine Bluff Cemetery."
