| 752 | Clements: "F B Totusek went to Wilbur on Wednesday, called by news that the body of Harry Clements, 81, former Odessa resident, had been found there Tuesday and that funeral services were to be held on Wednesday. Frank M Totusek accompanied his father to the funeral. Clements had been missing since June 23 and his body was found about a mile east of Wilbur, in some high weeds. Two boys, Bernard Tarbert, 11, and Raymond Tarbert, 13, found the body. County officers were called and the body was identified by papers in a billfold. There was about $65 in the wallet. No inquest was held. Clements left the Best nursing home there June 23 for a short visit in town, and never was seen again. A search was made here and at other communities where he had lived, Grant County officers also searching. AS he was known to have money in his possession, it was feared he might have met with foul play." Kearns - An 11 year old Kearns boy accidentally strangled to death in the bedroom of his home Saturday shortly after 10 a.m. as he, a sister and two brothers were playing a game they called 'hangmen.' Pronounced dead at the Kearns Medical Center was Peter Hayden McCarrel, son of Terrance L. and La Rae Koepke McCarrel, 4790 S. 4720 West, Kearns. Mrs. McCarrel told Salt Lake County Deputy Sheriff Ken J. Steinfeldt that she left home at 9:15 a.m. to pick up her husband who is a bus driver for the Greyhound Bus Lines. She took her two youngest daughters, Alison and Valerie, with her, leaving the victim, Paul, Sheldon and Pamela at home. When Mr. and Mrs. McCarrell arrived home at 10:20 a.m., Pamela told them theat ehy had been playing 'hangmen' in the back bedroom and that Peter was still there." Elizabeth Austen's sister would then be the same Jane Austen who married George Apsley? The name Apsley shows in one Jeffrey's brother's will. Carol cannot find thus far any marriage of an Elizabeth Hickmott to a Jeffery Austen to prove the speculation. Also the 1638 will above for Elizabeth makes no mention of any Hickmott descendants. | 791 | DEATH: 1. Obituary "Michael Juan Palau passed away peacefully at home with his family on September 27, 2020 in Ogden, Utah at the age of 73. He was born on May 17, 1947 to Moses Palau and Rachel Landy in Salt Lake City, Utah. He and Shellie Burke were married on August 6, 1983 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Ogden, Utah. They were the love of each other’s lives. He was a member of the Catholic faith, graduated from Ben Lomond High School, and served in the United States Army as a Field Wireman, winning several awards in sharp shooting. Mike worked at Petersen Motors for many years before moving to Westland Ford and finally his own detail shop. Not another person in Ogden could detail and polish up a car the way he could. His knowledge of cars was great, and he was the go-to person whenever you had car trouble. Anyone who knew Mike, knew that he never met at stranger. He had the amazing gift of gab. He wasn’t one you would want to meet in a dark alley, however, he had one of the kindest, gentlest souls on this earth. He was always willing to help a friend no matter what the circumstance. You’d often see him driving around town, dogs in tow, beeping his horn and waving as he saw a friend on the street. Mike was involved with the Utah Doberman Rescue Club, enjoyed playing cards, reading, keeping his cars clean, and loved to play softball. You could always hear him whistling a tune while listening to his music no matter what he was doing. Mike’s greatest joy was watching his children and grandchildren play sports. Most of all, he loved family get-togethers and you could bet that they would be parties to talk about for days. He is survived by his wife Shellie, sons M. Shawn Palau (Yvette), Cole P. Palau (Christina), grandchildren Keolalani Palau, Keanu Palau, siblings Jean Roskelley (Ron), Dean Nacario, Amanda Naycalo, Rupert Nacario, Lina (Ezra) Hookano, many nieces and nephews and his three fur puppies, Tank, Izzy, and Daisy. He is preceded in death by his mother Rachel Nacario, brother Lani Palau and Kai-boy, his best fur friend. Special thanks to his grandson Keanu for tending to him in his last few days and helping him feel secure. His two daughters-in-law, Yvette and Christina, for their unquestioning help and support. Thank you to Intermountain Hospice for their exceptional service. Memorial services will be held 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 6, 2020 at Myers Ogden Mortuary, 845 Washington Blvd, Ogden, Utah. Her death was attributed to the effects of COPD. Carma was born on February 21, 1945, at the ranch house on the family's dairy farm in Panguitch, Utah. She was the third of five children, born to Clark E. DeLong and Lula Von Torgerson. She was always proud of her southern Utah heritage and never lost her love of cows, horses, and the smell of sagebrush. Mom thought herself a tomboy growing up. She loved to run, play baseball, and was the victor in many fistfights against the boys who bullied others. She spent her teenage years in Vernal, Utah, and graduated from Uintah High School in 1963. While in high school, she was involved in many activities including being a Majorette, and homecoming royalty. She was a wonderful dancer and we all loved to watch her jitterbug. Carma went to beauty school in Salt Lake City in 1966. She went on to graduate from Weber State College in 1974 with a BA in Child Development. Her quest for knowledge continued throughout her life. She loved learning and encouraged education for everyone she knew. Carma remained well-informed on current events and the latest scientific discoveries, eagerly sharing her knowledge with those who visited her. Our mother was a hard worker and had a wonderful work ethic. Whenever she had a job or project, it was always perfectly done. She had many different employers over the years, her final job was working for Southwest Airlines in the Salt Lake City and Phoenix reservation centers. She loved to travel. Some of her favorite destinations included Hawaii, Mexico, Italy, Belize, England, and Carmel, California. Carma took pride in her appearance and had a wonderful sense of style. She spent hours doing her hair and always kept her nails freshly painted. Everyone always said how beautiful she was and that she looked like a movie star. She loved her home and always kept it clean and organized. She enjoyed doing laundry and was a wonderful seamstress. She could fix anything with Elmer's glue and clothespins, or a needle and thread. If you knew Carma well, you know she was never ashamed of who she was or what she believed in. As a proud Democrat, she was a staunch supporter of Women's Rights, Unions, and the ERA. Standing up for the oppressed and befriending the outcast was second nature to her. She was a wonderful mother and grammy. She made holidays and birthdays extra special with her homemade Halloween costumes, themed birthday cakes, and clever gifts. Carma's spunky personality, love for her family and friends, and ability to dare to be different will always be remembered by all who knew her. Bright red nail polish, flashy jewelry, Cadillacs, and Cheetos will always remind us of our Mom. She brought so much light into our lives, and we consider ourselves immensely lucky to have been loved by her. We are proud to have called her Mom and Grammy and will miss her always. The family moved to Long Beach, California when Sherman was a teen. He went on to graduate from Jordan High School in Long Beach. At the age of 19, Sherm became an electrician and was a lifetime member of the Local 11 IBEW. On October 3, 1953 Sherm married JoAnn Keaster and they went on to have four children: Sheri, Larry, Gary and Terry. JoAnn passed away September 1960. Sherm met Connie Haas in January 1961 and married her on October 14, 1961. Sherm and Connie had two girls: Kim and Tami. Sherm retired from IBEW and moved the family to Modesto in July 1978 where he started a property management company, Petersen Properties. Sherm had a passion for sports and for coaching. He spent many a day coaching Little League Baseball, Bobby Sox softball, Men’s Fast Pitch, Co-ed and Women’s softball. He was very active and enjoyed waterskiing, hiking, fishing and camping with his best friends the Thayers. If you had a conversation with Sherm, you quickly learned he loved his kids and grandkids. He never missed an opportunity to help someone including by loaning out his car, mowing other’s lawn, giving advice, and sharing his real estate knowledge. He was happiest when he was giving to others. He had a huge heart that welcomed everyone. If you weren’t a family member you were an adopted family member and forever friend! Sherm was the Los Angeles Dodger’s # 1 fan and now he has joined his favorite Dodger pitcher Sandy Koufax, in the baseball stadium in the sky. Sherman was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Blanche Petersen, his brother Paul Petersen, his first wife JoAnn and granddaughter Rachael Gierhan. Entry for the Winner girl is the ninth: "Friday, 27th March, two o'clock A.M. the daughter of Mr. George K. Winner died of the cankered sore throat, aged 6 months and 7 days." Many of the entries, but not this one, include latitude/longitude and by plotting them on a map, we can surmise the Winner child died approximately 750 miles just very slightly south of due east of Montevideo, Uruguay at approximately Lat. 36 S. Long. 43 W. The second list is a passenger manifest: "George R. (sic) Winner, Lady and six children". 3. The book "An Intimate Chronicle, The Journals of William Clayton," George D. Smith, editor, pg. 353, reports on when Samuel Brannan returned from California and met up with Brigham Young on 30 Jun 1847. Among other things Clayton recorded: "They had 11 deaths on board their ship during their voyage over, the others I understand are doing well, raising grain, etc." 4. Words written and pronounced by Kerry Petersen at a shipside memorial service for Sarah Winner on board the Royal Princess in the Atlantic Ocean due south of Montevideo, Uruguay at lat. 36 S., long. 55 W., Sunday, 26 Jan. 2003: "Friends of the ship Brooklyn, this evening we memorialize the death and burial at sea of Sarah Winner. She died on Friday, March 27, 1846, at 2 a.m. during the night. She was buried at sea at approximately latitude 36 S. and longitude 43 W. which is almost due east of our present position on the ship Royal Princess upon which we are passengers almost 157 years later. Sarah was born Sept. 20, 1845 in New Jersey near Tom's River to Captain George King and Hanna P. Winner. She was their seventh child. She died near here of a cankered sore throat at age six months and seven days. She was the ninth death on the voyage of which five adults and 6 children died. Her family became early members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. They left New York City's Old slip on Feb. 4, 1846 with about 238 other members of their faith. They sought the prospect of deliverance from religious persecution by seeking a new home in the unsettled western coast of North America. They arrived July 31, 1846 and established a colony that would eventually become the city of San Francisco. Their announcement of gold in California started the Gold Rush that made the Untted States a nation from sea to sea. Their voyage was at a time when it was still fearful to take a shipload of familes with women and children around the Horn because of the superstitions of sailors. The ship is known at the 'Mayflower of the West' and their voyage of 24,000 miles was the longest religious pilgrimage of recorded history. Captain Winner assisted with the navigation of the ship Brooklyn. It was under these same navigational stars of the Southern Cross that the Winner family grieviously buried their daughter and sister into the depths of this sea. It is under these same exact stars in the same sea that we dedicate and consecrate this bronze plaque to the memory of Sarah Winner. This plaque has on one face a casting of the image of the ship Brooklyn. On the other face are the birth and death dates of Sarah. It is but a small token to let Sarah know that she is not forgotten. One fellow passenger noted later in her life: 'After all their trials during the six months voyage of tropic heat and heavy storms, the faults, and defects of human nature discovered and endured, there still exists between the living a bond of remembrance and friendship, unlike that of any other claim, and toward the dead a tender regret, a sense of loss, almost of kinship.' Hans Peter Wampler, in his will probated 30 Jun 1792 in Frederick Co., MD, states: "I give unto my beloved wife Barbara Wampler all the land I bought of Philemon Fishburn during her widowhood..." and that part of his inheritance was to go to Jacob Snither equally with his other children and of whom Barbara in her later will notes as her son. Assuming, as many report but without documentation, that Hans Peter's first wife Anna Barbara Brenneisen died in 1782 in Frederick Co., then the above Barbara would be a later marriage. Some believe, as does Roy Wampler cited elsewhere in these notes, that there was only one marriage and Barbara was married before to Snither. I do not concur. The marriage is well documented in 1743 with Anna Barbara 'Brenneiss[en]' and it appears unlikely she would have previously been married to a ___ Snither prior to that time since so many of her Brenneisen siblings were recorded in the same Hill Lutheran Church and there are no Snithers reported. Similoarly, several entries on Rootsweb.com Worldconnect are quite sketchy indicating that the second Barbara (Snither) was actually a first marriage to Hans Peter; however, this makes no sense since these databases all indicate Barbara Brenneisen died in 1782 - yet it is apparent there was a Barbara in 1792 that had been widowed before marrying Hans Peter. Additionally, in the same will, he names all of his children by name. Later he says that upon his wife's death or remarriage, any money remaining to be divided "equally between all my children and Jacob Snither..." Jacob apparently was like a son and most likely a son of the second Barbara's first marriage to a Snither/Sneither. Some Worldconnect sites as of Feb 2004 note the second Barbara's maiden name as Snither/Sneither which makes no sense since how could she have a son with the same last name. I concur with the book, "Wamplers in America," by G. M. Shouse - 929.273, W181 -sh, pg. 6, where she indicates: "Peter may have married a second time to a widow whose name was Barbara Sneither. A Barbara Wampler wrote her will in Frederick County, MD on 16 May 1796, directing that all of her estate, except her wearing apparel, be sold at public sale and that the money be equally divided between her son Jacob Sneither and Joseph Wampler." When one considers that by the mid-1760s Hans Peter was most likely a Dunker, then it would not be a surprise that there were no records of the first Barbara's death or Hans Peter's second marriage since the Dunkards purposefully and traditionally did not keep church vital records to maintain their professed isolation and separateness. | Barbara (I1103)

From parish records, we can see all the daughters (except Hannah) and the other sons are deceased by this date. Further research into the daughter Hannah will probably also confirm she was deceased by this date.
