      1. Obituary for father of James Sagalyn that mentions Jane Herzenberg. Published in the Hartford Courant on 7/1/2004: "SAGALYN, Irwin Irwin Sagalyn, a lifelong resident of the Pioneer Valley who had been Chairman and President of Holyoke Machine Company, a manufacturer of paper mill machinery since 1948, died Wednesday, (June 23, 2004) at Baystate Medical Center after a brief illness. He was 88. Born in Springfield, MA to Dora Katz and Raphael Sagalyn, who founded Industrial Buildings Corporation (now Cabotville Industrial Park) in Chicopee in the 1930's. Raphael Sagalyn also was the founder of the Jewish Community Center in Springfield. Irwin Sagalyn was a professional engineer who attended Technical High School and graduated from M.I.T. in 1937. He continued to work until three months prior to his death. He married Lucy Rothenberg in 1943 and they lived in Northampton at the time of his death. A lifelong learner, Sagalyn recently took computer and Spanish classes at Holyoke Community College. A relentless tinkerer in 1954 he solved his strong aversion to advertisements on television by wiring a simple device to control the audio component of the TV, thus devising an early version of the remote control. He devoted himself to several local and political causes, including public television and radio stations, the ACLU, and scores of Democratic Party Candidates from Adlai Stevenson to John Dean and John Kerry. Sagalyn is survived by his wife of 61 years, Lucy Rothenberg Sagalyn; and three children, James Sagalyn of Northampton, MA who succeed him as President of Holyoke Machine Company and his wife, Jane Herzenberg, Ann Sagalyn Marks of West Hartford, a dentist, and her husband, David Marks, Raphael Sagalyn of Bethesda, MD, a literary agent, and his wife, Dr. Anne Boas Sagalyn. He leaves three grandchildren, Emily, Rebecca, and Erica Sagalyn; and two step grandchildren, Jesse and Sheena Reiter. The funeral will be held at Congregation B'Nai Israel at 253 Prospect St., in Northampton on Friday, July 2, at 11 a.m. The family will sit Shiva at the home of James Sagalyn and Jane Herzenberg on Sunday and Monday at 7:30 p.m. at 17 Woodlawn, Northampton, MA. The Harold R. Ascher & Son Memorial Chapel is in charge. Donations may be made to American Diabetes, 300 Research Parkway, Meriden, CT 06450 or to the Joslyn Clinic, 1 Joslyn Place, Boston, MA 02215."

      2. Website of Peter Bruce Herzenberg of London, England (since relocated to South Africa). Website is no longer functioning as of 7 Aug 2007. Copies of much of his data from the website in my possession. He indicates references by codes, which pertain to the original source and file held in his database, which I have not seen. I have no key to the sources except HL is Leonardo Herzenberg, HG is Gail Herzenberg, PC is probably Piltene Cemetery records, LA is probably Latvian Archives, FA is probably Aleksandrs Feigmanis (Latvian researcher hired by Harold Hodes), and YL is Len Yodaiken (Israeli researcher hired by Harold Hodes); however, he lists the main researchers and their contributions in a lengthy report which I include in full in the notes of the earliest Herzenberg of this database. In regards to this individual:
Ja181 shows James Sagalyn, md. as second husband to Jane Herzenberg, no children.
