    • RESEARCH_NOTES:
      1. Per the book "The Story of the Early Settlers of Stamford, Connecticut, 1641 - 1700," by Jeanne Majdalany (including genealogies comp. with Edith M. Wicks), page 165: "Samuel Holly, b1641 or bc1644, d1709, m1668 Mary Close (b1650, d1714), children are...." Also notes that his father John Holly was in Cambridge, MA in 1645 where he had a mill. John was in Stamford by 1647 where he was prominant. John and his sons Samuel...lived on the west side of South Street.

      2. The book "The Ancestry of Lorenzo Ackley & his Wife Emma Arabella Bosworth," comp. by N. Grier Parke, II, and ed. by Donald Line Jacobus (Woodstock, VT; 1960), p. 68:
"Children of John and Mary (___) Holly, order of birth uncertain... (Donald Lines Jacobus, "Families of Old fairfield," 1:290-1)."

      3. The book "Ancestry of Elizabeth Barrett Gillespie (Mrs. William Sperry Beinecke)," by Paul W. Prindle, 1976, p. 235-6:
"Samuel Holly, for many years the town clerk of Stamford, was born about 1642, for he died there 13 May 1709, aged 68 years (1:74). On 25 June 1668 he married Mary Close (1:102), daughter of Goodman and Elizabeth Close. Mary Holly, widow, died 7 April 1714 (1:126). "Ancestors of J.A. Close," a typescript by Joseph A. Close owned by The Ferguson Library, deduces quite reasonably that Goodman Close's given name was John since Greenwich Early Records reveal the 14 July 1699 marriage of a "John Close Second." Mr. Close also notes that Mary, widow of Samuel Holly, died 7 April 1714, aged 72, so was born about 1642."
[Kerry's note: From the context of the whole entry, Samuel's father John Holly did not move from Cambridge, Mass., to Stamford before the end of 1642 and more likely before 22 Oct 1645 when he purchased property in Stamford.]

      4. The book "Ye Historie of ye Town of Greenwich with Genealogical Notes …," by Spencer P. Mead with the assistance of Arthur S. Kimball (Camden, Maine; Picton Press), pp. 517-18:
"GOODMAN1 CLOSE, b. about 1600, in County York, England, m. Elizabeth ___, b. about 1606, in England, came to America about 1642, and finally settled in Fairfield, Connecticut, where Goodman Close died in 1653. His widow afterwards married George Stuckey, and died in Stamford, Connecticut, Sept. 4, 1656. Her children by her first husband were:
-Hannah2, b. about 1632, m. June 9, 1657, Joshua Knapp, and after his death she married John Bowers.
      -Joseph, b. about 1634, d. without issue before 166o.
-Thomas, b. about 1637, m. Sarah, daughter of Richard and Ann (Husted) Hardy, in 1669, he d. in Greenwich, in 1709.
      Mary, b. about 1640, living April 15, 1725, m. June 25, 1668, Samuel Holly."
