Note that journals are lengthy and only brief excerpts of immediate genealogical interest follow. Also note that I have made punctuation and capitalization corrections for easier reading:
      Page 9: "Oren Jefferds was married to Zerena Rogers in Rochester Jan 25th, 1832. Moved to Michigan 1833 town of Northfield, Wastenaw Co. Heard a Mormon preach - Henry Lameraux, August 26, 1840. I went to Brownstown forty two miles attended Conference Oct. sixth. Mephibosheth Sirrine preached at my house Oct. 26 and I and my wife were baptized Nov. 15 in the town of [p. 10] Superior under the hands of Elder Sirrine and Elder Deo. Ordained an Elder 20 Dec. at 1840 Conference in the town of Levana, Wane Co., Mich. under the hands of M. Sirrine and Rufus Beach. Moved to Nauvoo in 1844.
      Page 11: "Zerena Rogers was born Sept. 28th, 1806 Greenfield, Saratoga Co. NY, daughter [of] Elisha M. Rogers and Elizabeth Pattleford. Elisha M. Rogers, son of Amos Rogers and Luanna Dake, was born April the 11th, 1777 [Roadestsig??]. [Many names and dates of relatives follow.]"
      Page 43: "I and my wife Zerena received our endowments in the House of the Lord January the eighth, 1846. We landed on the Misourie River the next fall. Built a house in Winter Quarters - lived in it two winters: 47 and 48. Lost one or two cows the first winter and in the spring mooved back over the River on Honey Creek. Fenced 5 acres of hand plant[e]d corn; raised 200 bush[els], 40 of potatoes, 100 turnips. Built mee a house. Staid untill the 18 of Nov. then I and my wife in com. with Owen Cole started for Ohio in 1848; had a hard time traveling - got snowbound, staid in Westpoint over winter - arrived there the 17 of Dec. Staid and worked untill April 23, 1849 then started again for Ohio - traveled untill the 19[th] of May; we a[r]rived at James Thompson's in [the] Michigan town of Ypsilanti who married my wife's sister Harriet... [Oren (and family?) continue to travel through New York, Ohio, Michigan and finally returns to Kanesville Jan. 1851. He notes his preparation to leave for the West.]"

Arrived in Great Salt Lake City September the 20th at Moses Demmings in first Ward; went to Little Cottenwood 23d. Bought 20 acres of land in Big Field..."

      1. A couple of modern ordinance entries mention Feb 1886 and 29 Feb 1896. Per 8 Jul 2003 email from Annie Conley whose husband is a descendant of Helen Frederick (his great-grandmother): "Zerena was still living in 1886 when Helen visited there with daughter Clara."

      BURIAL:
      1. Utah State Burials Database online at webapps.deced.state.ut.us/burials: Orin Jefferds, b. 1801, d. 7 Mar 1869, no burial date but buried at Union Fort Cemetery, row E grave 3, in Sandy, Salt Lake Utah. Wife, Zarima Jefferds, is also buried in same cemetery but without any information known except that she was an "adult at death."
