      BIOGRAPHY:
      1. The book "John Mangum, American Revolutionary War Soldier and Descendants," 1986, by Delta Ivie Mangum Hale: "Sarah Delight Potter, second wife of William Mangum, was born Sept. 9, 1830, the daughter of Arnold Potter and Almyra Smith at Salisbury, Herkimer County, New York. She met William Mangum when he was called to take supplies for the snowed-in emigrants at Winter Quarters. They were married April 3, 1853 in the Endowment House, Salt Lake City, Utah by Brigham Young. After the marriage, her home was made in Payson, Utah where they lived for four years. At this time the family was called to go to Washington, Wash. Co., Utah to raise cotton in Utah's 'Dixie'. Besides raising cotton, they also raised 'Cain', sugar cane for molasses, and ten children.
From Mary Ann Chapman Richey the following information has been obtained: 'Sarah Delight Potter was a very fine woman. She was crippled with rheumatism after her first Child, Martin Addison, was born. Her husband, William, built her a special chair out of red cedar. The right arm of this chair was left hollow. In this area she kept her sewing materials, needles and yarn. She was always knitting stockings for her family and neighbors. She kept her home in a very clean and beautifully scrubbed condition. Her table was even scrubbed white. After William's death she moved with her daughter, Mary Jane Alger to the Smoot Ward, Lincoln Co., Wyoming. At this time she was so crippled that she could not be alone. A special fork carved out of red cedar had been made for her so that she could feed herself. This fork is now in the possession of her granddaughter, Josephine Alger Olson of McGill, Nevada.' Sarah Delight died in Smoot Ward, Lincoln Co., Wyoming June 9, 1905. She was so very kind and sweet that everyone who knew her loved her..."

      MARRIAGE:

      BURIAL:
      1. FHL book 921.273-H191L, FHL film 6100585 "Levison Hancock, Emily Hancock and their Descendants":
"Desiring to know the exact location of her great-grandmother's grave Delta Hale spent many years in research. Letters were written to the Stake Genealogical Chairmen in Wyoming and other places. She went to McGill, Nevada, to see the children of the daughter, Mary Jane Alger. She was told by her daughters, Sarah DeWitt Dobson and Josephine Alger Olsen, that she was buried in Smoot, Lincoln County, Wyoming, in the village cemetery.
By going to Smoot and talking with Hugh Finlayson, an ex-Bishop of Smoot Ward, and Martha Swabb, a native of Smoot in her 80th year and living in the house in which Sarah Delight died, the exact spot or location of the grave was found.
On the last Saturday in September in 1962, Delta Hale took a granite headstone to Sarah's grave. With the help of Bishop Finlayson, who furnished sand and gravel and water to mix the cement which Delta had secured, the headstone was erected. Delta's husband, Horace Hale, and her third son, Wilford M. Hale were very instrumental with the others mentioned, in the placing of the headstone.
When Sarah Delight was buried, a row of white stones had been put around the grave along with a row of posts about three feet high. In the top of the posts a log chain had been put to encircle the grave. Through the years the posts and the log chain have disappeared. A flood over the graveyard had deposited several inches of silt and dirt. This of course, had covered the white rocks. On going to the home of Martha Swabb in Smoot, it was found that she had cared for the grave. Martha Swabb went to the cemetery with Delta Hale to help with the location of the grave.
Some small cottonwood trees were growing at the spot indicated by Martha, and upon digging down near the roots of the trees, the white rocks were located. Thus the location and the placing of the headstone of Sarah Delight's grave were accomplished.
A few weeks later, Delta Hale located the grave of William Mangum in the cemetery at Circleville, Piute County, Utah. This was accomplished through the help of the sexton, LaPearl Beater and Margaret Fox. A matching headstone to the one placed on Sarah Delight's grave was placed on the grave of William Mangum. LaPearl Beater and Margaret Fox had cared for and decorated William's grave for many years. They are both dead now."
Kerry's note: a photo accompanies the article showing the headstone. It reads "S. Delight P. Mangum, Sept. 9, 1830-June 9, 1905."
