      OBITUARY:
      1. "Kentish Independent" newspaper of Saturday, 4 Aug 1855, p. 4, copy on file: "Fatal Accidents. - On Wednesday afternoon last, a young man named Osborn, in the employ of Mr. Dearsley of Woolwich, was engaged in driving a horse and cart laden with wood through Powes street, when he unfortunately met with an accident which terminated fatally. It appears that the deceased was on the wrong side of the road, and a vehicle came alone in the opposite direction, when the deceased pulled up suddenly, and received a jerk which threw him from his seat into the road, and the wheels of the cart passed over his body. He was immediately conveyed to Mr. Allinson, surgeon, who rendered every assistance, but the deceased expired at nine o'clock the same evening." Wed. was Aug. 1. According to the librarian of the London Borough of Greenwich's Local History Library "Woodlands" in Blackheath who sent us the obituary, there were two Mr. Dearsleys trading in Woolwich in 1855. Robert, who was a corn and coal merchant and John who was a green grocer. "Powis Street" was the main street in Woolwich then and now.
