      1. "John T. Hales. Spanish Fork - Word was received Saturday of the death at Ontario, Ore. of John T. Hales, former resident of Spanish Fork and a pioneer in the poultry industry in this section. Mr. Hales is well known in Oregon where he has been an apiarist and poultryman. He was born at Spanish Fork 55 years ago, the son of Charles Henry and Elizabeth Thompson Hales. He married Elizabeth Stewart of Spanish Fork 32 years ago. They moved to Oregon in 1912 and have made their homes there since. He is survived by his widow and the following children: Mrs. Mary Hale Woolsey, author of the popular song, 'When It's Springtime In The Rockies;' and Mrs. Pearl McMullin of Salt Lake; Mrs. Florence Heightsman, Willis, Everett, Edith and Ethel Hale of Ontario, Ore. He is survived also by six grandchildren, two sisters and a number of half brothers living in Salt Lake. Mr. Hales died of a heart attack from which he suffered only a few hours. His brothers-in-law William and Arthur Stewart, his sisters-in-law, Mrs. Effie Dart and Mrs. Bryan Stewart, left by automobile Saturday afternoon to attend the funeral. Mr. Hales has many relatives living in Spanish Fork and other Utah towns, besides those living in Salt Lake." The Deseret News, Mon., 2 Feb 1931, p.5.

      2. S.F. Man Dies in Oregon. Spanish Fork - Word was received here last night of the death at Ontario, Ore., of John T. Hales, former resident of Spanish Fork and a pioneer in the poultry industry in this section. Mr. Hales is well known in Oregon where he followed the calling of apiarist and poultryman. He was born at Spanish Fork 55 years ago, the son of Charles Henry and Elizabeth Thompson Hales. He married Elizabeth Stewart of Spanish Fork 32 years ago. They moved to Oregon in 1912 and have made their homes there ever since. Mr. Hales is survived by his widow and the following children: Mrs. Mary Hale Woolsey, author of the words to the popular song, 'Springtime In The Rockies,' Salt Lake City; Mrs. Florence Heightsman, Willis Hales, Everett Hales, Edith and Ethel Hales, all of Oregon; Mrs. Pearl McMullin, Salt Lake City.       3. Services for John T. Hales. Spanish Fork - Funeral services for John Thompson Hales, former resident of Spanish Fork, were held at the Methodist church at Ontario, Ore., Monday afternoon, Feb. 2. Reverend John Greshom was in charge and read a sketch of the life of Mr. Hales and also offered the invocation and gave the scripture reading. The choir sang an opening number, 'Lead Kindly Light' after which Rev. N.H. Lines of Buhl, Idaho, formerly pastor of the Ontario church sang a solo, 'Death Is But a Dream,' by special request of the bereaved wife. Rev. Lines also preached the funeral sermon, taking for his text the verse, 'Turn you to the Stronghold, you prisoners of hope.' The closing number by the choir was 'Jesus, Lover of My soul.' Rev. Greshom pronounced the benediction and concluded the services at the Ontario cemetery where interment took place. There was a large attendance and many beautiful floral tributes. Former Spanish Forkers in attendance were Wesley Nielsen and Mr. and Mrs. Eph. Neilson of Jameson, Oregon. Attending from Salt Lake City were Mrs. Mary H. Woolsey and daughter, Shila, Mr. and Mrs. William McMullan and daughter, Bettie Lou, and Fred Heightsman. From Spanish Fork, Arther and William J. Steward, Mrs. Sadye Stewart and Mrs. Effie Dart."
