- BIOGRAPHY:
1. Mentioned as an unmarried heir to Christian Wampfler's probate in the book, "Wampler Family History 1500s - 1700s," by Fred B. Wampler, Ph.D., p. 61 has the following record extract from the Staatsarchiv in Bern, Switzerland from "Wimmis Amtsrechnung, March 1716 - March 1717" giving the 4 heirs (children) of Christian Wampfler who had reached the age of majority (14) and who were receiving part of their deceased father's assets that had not previously been converted to capital and moved out of Switzerland: "The 5th of February 1716 District Treasurer Mani paid in the name of Hans Peter Wampfler, surviving son of a citizen and district subject, living in Sparbach, and for his brother Christian, married and living at Herzheim in the Nassauw Saarbrüggishen territory; additionally, for a single brother Hans, plus their sister Madlen living in Castel, married to Samuel Methauwer in the above county. Together 12 Kronen." According to the book, the following spelling corrections need to be made from that record:
Sparbach = Sparsbach.
Hertzheim = Herbitzheim.
Castel = Keskastel.
Madlen is equivalent to Magdalena.
Mathauwer = Mettauer.
Hans, Johannes, and Johann were often used interchangeably. Also this name was traditionally in this culture used as a prename to the real first name of a male child as was Anna likewise used for daughters.
2. Book, "Wampler Family History 1500s - 1700s," by Fred B. Wampler, Ph.D., pp. 64, 76-80, summarizes his findings of vital information regarding this individual as follows: Johannes (Hans), b. 1696, d. March 20, 1776 (80 Years, 1 month) in Herbitzhiem, md. (a) Anna Magdalena (last name unknown), (b) Christina Breitenstien (Dec. 7, 1728), of Herbitzheim, dau. of Tilman Breitenstein, Christine died Aug 1755 at the age of 55 years and 5 months, (c) Ursula Jost (Feb. 3, 1757 in Herbitzheim), of Keskastel, died Sep. 21, 1793. All of the sons of Christian Senior were linen weavers by trade. Herbitzheim appears to be an adjunct to the church records of Keskastel. Johannes and Anna Magdalena had no known children. The children with his second wife are as follows:
a. Maria Eleonara, ch. in Keskastel 26 Feb 1731, md. Carl Bach from Domfessel 23 May 1749.
b. Johann Tilman, ch. in Keskastel 18 May 1734, d. 31 Jul 1735 at age of 1 yr., 3 m., and 1 day. Ch. record notes father, Johannes, as a linen weaver.
c. Anna Margareth, ch. in Keskastel 28 Jun 1738, d. 28 Dec 1740. "Anna Magdalena, single dau. of master Christian Wampfler, citizen and weaver here," is listed as a witness and would be this child's cousin.
The children of Johannes and Ursula Jost all christened in Keskastel are as follows:
a. Eva Maria, ch. 3 Mar 1757, d. 6 Jun 1758.
b. Johann Ludwig, ch. 1 Mar 1759, md. Maria Magdalena Heck in Burbach on 7 Mar 1783. She was the dau. of Peter H Jeck, farm manager in Büscherhof. Ludwig was a soldier in the Dutch Regiment from Herbitzheim.
c. Georg Adam, ch. 29 Sep 1761, d. 11 Oct 1762.
In the year 1742 a census was taken in Herbitzheim and the following entry was recorded for Johannes Wampfler: "One child, linen weaver, Reformed religion, one house, two cows, good financial shape."
