      1. Zabriskie, George Olin, "The Jan Cornelisen Van Hoorn/Van Horne Family," The American Genealogist, Vol. 46, No. 1 (January 1970), pp. 47, 55-57:
"Neeltje Jans Van Hoorn, daughter of Jan Cornellsen Van Hoorn by his wife Hillegond Joris, was born in Amsterdam, Noordt Holland, about 1640 or 1641. Little is known of her except what can be gleaned from the records of the Dutch Reformed Church in New York. The first entry appears in 1659 and the last on 11 Jan. 1702 when she witnessed the baptism of a grandchild. Her second husband appears without an adult female in his family in the census of the North Ward of the city of New York taken about 1703 (Doc. Hist.1:618). Thus, we may assume that Neeltje died about 1702 or 1703, but she may have been the Neeltje Van Hoorn who witnessed a baptism as late as 16 July 1710.
The first record entry we credit to this Neeltje Jans is from the marriage register. On 3 Jan. 1659 Neeltje Jans, van Amsterdam, and Gysbert Martenzen, van Loenen, Utrecht, announced their intention to get married. Evidently this marriage did not take place, for on 21 March 1659 Neeltje Jans gave birth to an illegitimate daughter. With banns dated 21 Sept. 1660, Neel Jans, van Amsterdam, married Adam Unkelba, van Rivaen (NEHGR 9:38). When he joined the Dutch Reformed Church - the entry is undated - his place name appears as "van Rounen," which has not been identified. His name appears with various spellings but "Onkelbach" became the usual spelling. He signed the oath of allegiance to the British Crown in October 1664 (Col. Docs. 3:76) but died before June 1676 when his widow remarried.
Asseureus Hendrickszen joined the Dutch Reformed Church in New York on 4 March 1675 (NYGBR 9:147) and married 25 June (banns 11 June) 1676, as a young man from Albany, Neeltje Jans, widow of Adam Onkelbach. Both were then living in New York. He was "a fine silversmith" (ibid. 72:292) and they lived on present William Street, below Wall Street (HSYB 1916:32). He died 16 May 1727 according to the church records (HSYB 1899:168).
