      2. Ora Barlow, "The Israel Barlow Story and Mormon Mores":
Pp. 310-313 quotes from a letter written 12 Sep 1853 by Israel while in Rock Island, IL at the home of his sister-in-law, Mrs. Lucinda Beebe Barlow, the widow of Israel's brother Jonathan Watson Barlow who had moved to that city in the 1840's and had died there 20 Jul 1851. Israel was traveling through on his way to his mission to England. Spelling uncorrected: "...the Evening I past Montrose I took a Letter out of the office from Br Truman it informe me of Mothers Death on the 18 of aug the Morning that I left Calvin Bushes 30 milds from Trumans place but Did not no it at the time I very mutch regreted that it So hapened if Mother has hur age Correct She is 72 years old She is the 5 out of the Circle of My Farthers Family My Eldest Brother Nathaniel My farther Jonathan Barlow, my Sister Annis Gennet george Stones wife, Jonatha W. 3. 1850 US: Middle Ward Rock Island City, Dist. 37, Rock Island County, Illinois, 26 Oct 1850:
      Household 1165:
Jonathan W. Barlow, 46, laborer, Mass.
      Lucinda Barlow, 27, OH.
      Alvina, 8, Iowa.
      Hiram, 6, Illinois.
      Nathan, 4, Illinois.
      Ellen, 6/12, Illinois.
      Household 1166:
      Truman Barlow, 30, laborer, Mass.
      Annis Barlow, 76, Mass.
      George Stone, 46, laborer, NY.
      George Stone, 15, laborer, Ohio.
      Cecilia Stone, 6, Mich.

      4. From the Israel Barlow letter of 1853, Israel mentions that George Stone had two children buried in the Nauvoo cemetery near where Israel's son James Nathaniel was buried. One of these children appear to be named Mary. The 1850 census also mentions that George Stone had two children living (George and Cecilia), so this family had at least 4 children. I assume all of these children were to his wife Annis Jennette Barlow. Israel's letter mentions that George Stone had a grown son and he thought that was all the children Stone had. I checked the 1840 census and the closest I could find were two separate entries in Quincy, Illinois: one for George Stone and the other for George W. Stone. The ages of family members are not quite right on but not totally discountable neither. We know George and Annis Jennette Barlow were married in the Kirtland, Ohio area (2 Jan 1834 Portage Co., OH, per extracted temple record). I searched the Ordinance Index and it does not appear any of his children have had temple work.

      5. It is mentioned in the book The Town of Mendon 1813-2000 and Village of Honeoye Falls 1838-2000 by Diane Ham and Anne Bullock, Honeoye Falls-Town of Mendon Historical Society, January 2000, p. 75, that Annis Gillett, George Gillett Lockwood, Julia Ann Lockwood, Israel Barlow, Jonathan Barlow, Truman Barlow, Annis Barlow and Rhoda Barlow all went to Kirtland, OH with the Mormons in 1832.

      MARRIAGE:
      1. Online Ordinance Index FHL film 891357, batch M513341 (extracted marriage record for Portage County, Ohio from 1808-1841). Notes spouses as George L. Stone and Annis J. Barlow m. 2 Jan 1834 in Portage Co., Ohio.

      2. Marriage records go way back in Portage Co. in Ohio. I had a look up volunteer check and they report the old books are very hard to read but it does show a marriage of Annis J. Barlow and George T. [note the "T"] Stone on 2 Jan 1834. It was also reported that there are numerous "Stones" in the 1885 history of Portage Co.

      DEATH:
      1. Most records quote the family group sheets prepared by the Israel Barlow Family Association which has a date of 5 Apr 1856 with no location mentioned. P. 457 of the "Israel Barlow Story" indicates that there is no family commentary on the Annis' death. I believe this to be in error considering the letter of 12 Sep 1853 of her brother cited above which indicates "Annis Gennet" was already dead at the time of the letter. It also appears from the 1850 census that she was most likely deceased by Oct 1850.
