    5. The book: "1981 History of Harrison County Iowa," p. 226, submitted by Alice Hoffman:
"Ira Hoffman Family. Ira Hoffman was born April 17th 1901 on a farm down by McClelland, Iowa. His parents were Joe and Rebecca Graybill Hoffman. Alice Kern was born August 19th 1905 on a farm west of Shelby, Iowa. My parents were James and Anna King Kern. I went to country school and when I was in the eighth grade my folks moved into town at Shelby, Iowa. I went to high school and graduated in 1923. My class was the first one to graduate out of the new building which was dedicated in the fall of 1922. Ira went to country school at Yorkshire, Iowa. Ira Hoffman and Alice Kern were married December 4th 1920. To this union were born two children, Quentin and Lois Hoffman. Quentin was born November 1st 1934 two and a half miles south of Persia, Iowa. Lois was born September 12th 1936 two and a half miles south of Persia, Iowa. This was the same farm where Ira and his folks lived. We moved onto the farm after we were married. My son Quentin and I still live on the farm. My husband Ira passed away August 31, 1957 with a heart attack at the age of 56. Quentin went to country school at Yorkshire, Iowa and entered high school at Persia, Iowa and graduated in 1953. Lois also went to country school at Yorkshire, Iowa and entered high school at Persia, Iowa, and graduated in 1955. Lois Hoffman was married to Myron Albers March 4th 1956. To this union were born four children, Dennis, Karen, Kay and David. Two of their children are married. Dennis Albers married Andrea Feldman from Minden, Iowa and they live five miles west of Oakland, Iowa. Kay Albers married Michael James and they live in Council Bluffs, Iowa. I have four grandchildren and one great-grandson, Jason Michael James. He is nineteen months old. He is the son of Kay and Michael James. They all graduated from Tri-Center High School except David and he will graduate in May 1981. Dennis graduated in 1974, Karen in 1978 and Kay in 1979."

    6. 20 Feb 2004 email from DMLJLL426@netzero.net in response to my inquiry as follows:
"Would surely appreciate whatever you could tell me about Joe Hoffman and his family on pages 43 and 105 of 1983 Centennial Book. Hopefully it will have Joe's birth and death dates and locations. Same for Ira if possible." Response: "Ira Hoffman Family: Ira Hoffman was born April 17, 1901 on a farm down by McClelland, Iowa. His parents were Joe and Rebecca Graybill Hoffman. Alice Kern was born Aug 19, 1905 on a farm west of Shelby, Iowa. My parents were James and Ann King Kern. Ira Hoffman and Alice Kern were married December 4, 1929. The biography goes on to tell about the family but no more information on Joe and Rebecca. The bio mentions Lois their daughter married Myron Albers. A bio is on page 43 but there is no mention of Joe or Rebecca. Myron and Lois Albers may be found on the Internet phone book for contacting for any more information they may have on Joe and Rebecca."
