    • RESEARCH_NOTES:
      1. Some (including Val Bray in a note below) have tried to link this Elizabeth with Elizabeth Mott chr. 21 Mar 1700/1701. Many were not aware of a death of Elizabeth Mott in this parish in 1704 that confuses the issue.
Elizabeth Mott chr. 21 Mar 1700/1701 at Herstmonceaux, Sussex, England is shown in the parish record as being the child of Benjamin and Elizabeth Mott. This would make her about age 28 at the documented date of marriage in 8 Apr 1729 in Warbleton, Sussex, England, which is very possible. However, there is a burial record for Herstmonceaux for an Elizabeth Mott 4 Apr 1705 in the same parish. It states simply that her father was Benjamin and no age is given.
To further complicate this, the same Herstmonceaux register shows another Elizabeth Mott chr. 2 Feb 1682 with a father listed as Benjamin and no mother's name shown. There is also another unnamed child shown chr. with father Benjamin with no mother listed: ___ Mott 11 Jan 1680.
There are also other children shown chr. with parents Benjamin and Elizabeth: Benjamin 11 Mar 1704/1705, John 3 Dec 1707, and Samuel 30 Jan 1710.
Apparently from the christening records there were two families with the father named Benjamin. The burial record as reported by Family Search's parish records for Elizabeth Mott does not give enough information to determine if this is the 1682 Elizabeth or the 1701 Elizabeth. It only gives the name of the father and no mother, which is more in keeping with the 1682 Elizabeth where the father is and no mother is reported. On the other hand to report the father of 23 year old woman seems odd making it more likely to be the burial of the 1701 Elizabeth. More complicating is that the John chr. 1707 dies in 1707 and both his parents Benjamin and Elizabeth are reported in his burial record - so Elizabeth's burial in 1704 shows no mother and John's in 1707 shows mother. Is this a clerical issue only or was the earlier 1682 being referred to in the 1704 burial.
Often Family Search's extracted christening records only summarize the key information of the record and an actual look at the microfilmed burial record (FHL film 1067210) might give additional information such as age, residence, or something else to help us positively identify which Elizabeth died in 1704. This is critical before we can assume that the Elizabeth who married Thomas Daw in 1729 was the same Elizabeth chr. in 1701. The reported 3 Jul 1772 burial record in Warbleton for Thomas Daw's wife Elizabeth should also be looked at to see if an age was reported at the time of the burial (or perhaps a tombstone for her might have a birth year and/or age.)
