1. Today's Hampden County of Massachusetts was originally Middlesex County until it was split off in 1662 and named Hampshire County. Hampden County was formed from Hampshire County in 1812.
2. Appears in 1800 Census in Ontario Co., NY.
3. The book: "The Publications of the Buffalo Historical Society, Vol. VII,: ed. by Frank Severance, Buffalo, 1904, p. 281: "In addition to the persons mentioned by me as fond at Canandaigua in the Spring of this year (1789), the following came in during the Summer, viz.: Abner Barlow... Jairus Rose..."
