- RESEARCH_NOTES:
1. Notes from Petersen family photo album prepared by Jack Petersen: "Doyle Charles Hales. Son of Charles Henry Hales and Sarah Catherine Stoker. He was a captain in WWII, serving in the Coast Artillery in Panama. He was the only family mamber to receive a college degree. He married June 29, 1943, Margaret Mary Scott, in Panama... They had one son, Edward Scott Hales. She died July 23, 1946. She is buried at Aultorest Memorial Park, Ogden, Utah. He remarried Feb. 15, 1948, at Tooele, Utah, Helen Grant, born Nov. 10, 1910, at Appleton, Minnesota. She was the daughter of Fred Grant and Bertha Lund. By a previous marriage she had a daughter, Ann Preston Carroll. Doyle and Helen had no children. Helen had nervous eyes; her eyelashes fluttered as she talked."

BIRTH:
1. Conflict: Hales family group sheets have always shown birthplace as Appleton, Swift, Minnesota; however, burial records indicate birthplace as Bemidji, Beltrami, Minnesota.
DEATH:
1. Per burial record.
2. Did not find in Social Security Death Index as of March 1999.
BURIAL:
1. Utah State Historical Society Burials Database (on the Internet): "Hales, Helen, b. 10 Nov 1910 at Bemidji, Beltrami, Minnesota and died 28 Dec 1989 at Salt Lake City, UT. Buried 2 Jan 1990 at Tooele City Cemetery in 8-171-2. Source: Sexton records. Parents listed as William Grout [Grant?] and Bertha Lund."
