      1. Was an only child of her mother's marriage to Andrew Allen. Nancy was about 30 years younger than Andrew who already had many grown children and many grandchildren from his first marriage to Eunice Miner. Andrew would have been in his early seventies when Emma was born.

      3. I am reasonably certain Nancy White married Evans O'Banion in 1868 and he probably died by 1875 since Nancy signs her name as Nancy Allen for consent to her daughter Emma's marriage to Charles Taylor in 1875. It seems that the 1870 census would be key to proving the O'Banion family grouping especially since it should also have her 15 year old daughter Emma Jeanette Allen also listed. I cannot find the 1870 census for them but I can find them all in 1860 and Nancy and Emma in 1880.

      4. On file from Jeannie Aldredge, I have a 40 page Nancy Fountain White descendancy listing with research notes. I have cited all information concerning this specific individual into these notes.

      5. Susan Black's RLDS membership book has no entries for Charles nor Emma Taylor.

      6. The following may be references to Charles Taylor, husband of Emma, even though it is uncertain if there were more than one Charles Taylor in Harrison County from New York:
      A. FHL book 977.747-H2n: "History of Harrison County, Iowa," 1891, p. 144: "The present membership of the A.F. and A.M. lodge is fifty-six, in good standing. Ark Chapter No. 89, R.A.M., was instituted at Dunlap April 25, 1879, with ten charter members... The first elective officers were... Charles Taylor, Scribe." Also later on same page: "Shields' Post No. 83, G.A.R., at Dunlap, was organized June 17, 1882, by... Charles Taylor..." Later on page in regards to the same organization, it notes that additional positions: "...Charles Taylor, Council of Administration; Charles Taylor, Adjutant."
      B. FHL film 934944 "History of Harrison County, Iowa," 1915:
      P. 231, which cites him as one of ten charter members of the Ark Chapter of the Masons which was organized as No. 89, of Royal Arch Masons, April 25, 1879. Not sure if this is the same Charles Taylor or not. One other of the ten is S. M. Maynard who may or may not have some relation through Charles wife.
Pp. 947-949, which cites the lengthy biography of Charles W. Lewis who was born in 1866 near Council Bluffs. Mr. Lewis married Minnie Page in 1892 at Council Bluffs. She was born 23 Jan 1865 in New York City to James H. and Mary Esther (Taylor) Page, natives of New York and Bridgeport, Connecticut, respectively. James Page was a merchant in New York city where he maintained a grocery store on Division street. James Page with his family went west to Council Bluffs in 1872. A few years later he went back to New York for a visit and he, with his brother-in-law, Charles Taylor, drove back to Iowa in a wagon, the journey consuming three months, as they traveled in the winter. In speaking of the ancestry of Mary Taylor [and therefor of Charles Taylor as well] the biography adds that they were of English stock. Also noted is that Mary Taylor "was a member of the Vevian family, who were of Dutch descent." It is also related that Mary's grandfather "was the owner of a large farm in what is now part of New York city. The Jerome Park race course is located on a part of the old homestead which was the site of a large stone mansion, that is still standing on the ground" and that he "was an extensive slave-holder, but he freed those in his possession at the time of the first agitation of that question."

      7. Email 13 Sep 2003 from Jeannie Aldredge:
      a. Emma Jeannette Allen was born August 24, 1855 in Magnolia, Harrison County, Iowa, and died April 29, 1936 in Correctionville, Union Township, Woodbury County, Iowa. She married Charles Andrew Taylor July 21, 1875 in Magnolia, Harrison County, Iowa, son of Andrew Taylor and Ann Tombs. He was born January 17, 1847 in Washington County, New York, and died February 04, 1914 in Moorhead, Monona County, Iowa.
      b. Emma was the only child born to the marriage of Andrew Allen and Nancy Fountain White.
      c. 08.15.2002: Note from Dorothy Hotchkiss: Gma Emma was the daughter of Andrew Allen & Nancy Maynard Allen. Gma Emma had 20 half bro & sis. 10 of Andrew Allen's and 10 of Nancy's. I have always known of Uncle Jot Adair & Uncle Ben Maynard. I think there are 2 women buried up home but that still leaves 6 that we don't know where they are. I have Gma Emma's old photo album & it has pix & first names. Gma Emma would say the names of all 20 of her 1/2 sibling (only given names) & named Jot & Jude last so I am assuming they were the youngest & Jot was the only Adair 1? I have the names of her 10 Allen siblings, just need Maynard, but who knows there could be other husbands I don't know of.

      8. Extracts from 15 page biography or Eunice Miner with photos received 31 Aug 2003 from Barbara L. Eades [full copy in Samuel Adair file]: "...Andrew Allen lived alone for about three years and then married a much younger woman - 30 years younger - by the name of Nancy who had a son by a previous marriage. Andrew helped to raise young Joshua. Andrew's beloved daughter Emma Jannet Allen was born in 1856. Andrew died at age 84 years and 5 months on January 10, 1867, leaving his estate to his 11-year old daughter Jannet and his 55-year old wife Nancy. (Will written on January 6, 1866. FHL film 1510,109 item 4 p. 522.) He stated in his will that if his wife Nancy remarried, his estate would go to his daughter Jannet..."

      9. From Barbara Eades 30 Aug 2003: "I have several documents in my possession relative to this family. I have Andrew's will, a document Nancy signed when Emma married, and deed(s) wherein Nancy basically signed over to Emma, per Andrew's will, land. In the one deed in particular, Nancy signed her name as O'Banion, and a notation something to the effect of formerly Nancy F. Allen. This would tend to support her marriage to an O'Banion, obviously. Andrew's will was probated 1 Apr 1867."

      MARRIAGE:
      1. From Barbara Eades 30 Aug 2003, Emma's mother Nancy signed a consent slip [copy on file with me] which is affixed to the record book at the Harrison County, IA, Clerk of Court office testifying to Emma J. Allen's age for her marriage. It reads: July 21, 1875, Charles Taylor and Emma J. Allen. Magnolia, Iowa, July 21, '75. This it to prove that I Emma Allen is 19 years old this 24 of August 1875. Given under my hand the 21 of July. Nancy F. Allen." Charles full name per Barbara was Charles Andrew Taylor.

      2. Www.rootsweb.com/~iaharris/marriage/ba.htm has an 1853-1905 Marriage Index for Harrison County. Entries:
"Emma J. Allen and Chas. Taylor 7/21/1875"
"Nancy Allen and Evans O'Banion 7/5/1868"
I looked up two films 1513295 it. 3-5 (which was a poorly kept book of granted marriage licenses) and 1513294 (which was the recording of marriages giving only the groom and bride's names and who performed the marriage). The first film had the permission referenced above in a separate note and postmarked from Magnolia. The second film had "Charles Taylor and Emma J. Allen, 11 Jul 1875. Note the date is different and more accurate than that given in the index above.
