      OBITUARY:
      1. The newspaper "The Deseret News," p. 16, Thursday, Jan. 16, 1941 (photo accompanies obituary): "Cynthia Hardy. Mount Emmons, Utah. - Funeral tribute was paid to Mrs. Cynthia Hardy, 85, last Friday afternoon in the Mount Emmons Ward, under direction of Bishop Walter Kerksick. Mrs. Hardy died here Wednesday. Speakers during the services were Ira Cannon of Salt Lake, Birch Bennion and Bishop Kerksick. Musical numbers were furnished by the Moon Lake Stake Singing Mothers under direction of Mrs. Dorthella Dastrup. Interment took place in the Mt. Emmons Cemetery. Mrs. Hardy was born in San Bernardino, April 25, 1856, and came as a child to Parowan. The remainder of her life is a story of the struggles and hardships of the Mormon Pioneers in the development of this western territory. When she was not yet two years old, her mother died, and the child was taken by Eliza R. Snow to St. George, where she grew up in the home of William Perkins. On April 13, 1878 she became the wife of John James Hardy, the ceremony being performed in the St. George Temple and soon after the marriage they were called to colonize in St. Thomas, Ariz. Because of unbearable hardships they were later recalled to settle in Kanab, Utah. The family moved to the Uintah Basin in 1918. Mrs. Hardy is survived by nine children as follows: Will Hardy of Castle Dale; Mrs. Dicy Lister of Mt. Emmons; Mrs. Mary Fullmer of Burley, Ida.; John Hardy of Montana; Mrs. Lodia Schifer of Springfield, Ill.; Joe Hardy of California; Thomas Hardy of Payson; and Silas and Henry Hardy of Mr. Emmons. She is survived also by 62 grandchildren and 92 great-grandchildren."
