"James Wells, a son of Edmund and Welthia Ann (Goodrich) W. of Cambridge, NY, born 4 Mar. 1776, White Creek, Cambridge district, NY; he married 1st, 7 Oct. 1800 at Cambridge, to Clarinda GRIFFIN, daughter of Benjamin and Chloe (HOWARD) G. of Windham and Hampton, CT, born 16 Nov. 1776, Hampton, Windham town and Co., CT and she apparently died by 1818 and he possibly married 2nd 21 Aug. 1818, to Lois SCOTT, daughter of John and Asenath (___) S. of Cambridge, NY, baptized 25 Dec. 1791 at Protestant Presbyterian Congregation, Cambridge. Clarinda had been a school teacher, he was a merchant and the family lived in Argyle, Galesville (Easton town) and then Union Village, Greenwich, on the Battenkill, Wash. Co., NY; he died 27 Mar. 1825 in the 50th year of his age, Bottskill Baptist Church record, Greenwich, Wash. Co., NY. Children by 1st marriage of James and Clarinda (GRIFFIN) Wells of Argyle and Greenwich, Wash. Co., NY: [Lists five children b. 1801-1815.]
