1. Per daughter Patti in letter dated 27 Sep 2010: "As far as my Dad my memories are vague. He died when he was 58 the day after Thanksgiving, I believe I was 14. Mom told me he was born in Des Moines, Iowa. He was in the Service. What Branch I don't know and was dishonorably discharged. Jenkins-Soffe Mortuary in Salt Lake City handled the services. I know he was in prison at the Point of the Mountain, but I don't know the years. You know I don't even know my grandmother and grandfather. Dad's whole name was George Eugene Hatten. Mom just didn't talk much about them."

B. Missouri Birth Records: Thurston Bennett Hatten, b. 26 Aug 1885 in Vernon Co. MO; father D.B. Hatten age 26, farmer, born in Coral County, MO; mother E.E. Hatten, age 19, maiden name Bennett.
C. 1900 US Census for Ozark, Barton, Missouri gives us the grandparents of George Eugene Hatten:
Thurston B. Hatten, 41, b. Jan 1859, md. 17years, MO VA VA, farmer.
Emma Hatten, 33, b. Oct 1866, IL VA IN, 2 children total with both living.
Thurston B. Hatten, 14, b. Aug 1885, MO, MO, MO.
Clyde A. Hatten, 9, b. Apr 1891, MO MO MO.
C. George's father Thurston appears to have married Gwendolen Buchanan about 1910 and was living in Center Township, Vernon Co., MO in the 1910 census with no children. The same couple is then in San Antonio, Los Angeles County, California in the 1920 census with no children. George was then probably born out-of-wedlock and probably brought up by his mother.
D. Several generations back to 1628 and addtional information can be found at Rootsweb.com Worldconnect on the Internet by searching the names of George's grandparents Thomas Bascomb Hatten and Emma Bennett. We find that George's father Thomas Bennett Hatten md. Gwendolen Buchanan were married 29 Jul 1909.

Retired salesman, Aztec Business Machins; veteran WW II, U.S. Army; former member Masonic Lodge in Los Angeles, Calif. Survivors: widow; son, daughter, Woodrow, U.S. Army, Italy; Patricia Hatten, Brigham City; 11 grandchildren. Graveside services Tuesday, 11 a.m., Elysian Burial Gardens."
